These aren't terrible, but they aren't loveable either. I would have hoped they would use my city's name on a more eye appealing shoe. If going this route, red would seem a more obvious choice.baldy[1].gif

Hermes bought out jl and made some stylistic changes to say the least. Similar to what prada did to churches althought not to that extreme. JL had a line for paul smith that was a bit out there for a classic English shoe. Don't get me wrong they still make some good stuff but the prices have shot through the roof. $1600 USD for rtw is outrageous, anything MTO runs up to 2k.They discontinued a lot of great models.

Just hope nothing like this happens to AE.

Those are some of the ugliest shoes I have ever seen. I feel like I am in the twilight zone after reading people's positive impressions of them on this thread. Really??

I think it's a shame they couldn't have made a simpler and more tasteful design. The concept has potential though.

So how does the AE branded shoe polish compare to something like Saphir?  The salesman threw some in with my new shoes and just wondering what kind of rep it's got

They look exactly like the awful sneaker/dress shoe hybrids made by brands like Ecco.

Cool. Looking forward to seeing the new fall collection.

I'd rather see something similar to Converses or Common Projects if we're talking sneakers.

I haven't seen the downside to it yet, but my oldest Filson item is only 2 or 3 years old, so I don't have any experience with the older stuff.

We should be clear that we're not referring to John Lobb Bespoke here.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some shoes in black to be served as formal wear , and brown shoes to be used mostly as business casual / casual shoes. I'm not sure what shoe to buy or what the price distrubution should be. My budget is ~$500 for both shoes. Should I buy a more expensive black or more expensive brown? I will probably use the brown shoes more often.

Thanks.

Go with seconds and get them both.

Guys,

IMHO I don't think there is anyway that AE gets outsourced. If you listen to Grangaard's past interviews, the entire China strategy is based on exporting American made goods to China. The Chinese are interested in American products because they are American. Any subsequent buyer who changes course can kiss the entire Chinese market goodbye.

Black Park Avenues and Walnut Strands for $229 each at Nordstrom are hard to beat. It doesn't make sense to pay $199 for seconds when you can get firsts for $30 more.
