Recent acquisitions.  Brand new Mctavish in distressed brown.  Cambridge in burgundy shell, a few months old--Christmas present from me to me.  Walnut Jefferson, picked up in May.  I sat them up on the hood of the datemobile and snapped a few pictures.

Mctavish--I have 3 pairs now:  Natural, black, and now distressed brown.  I prefer double oak soles, Norwich/Lubbock are my favorite AE shoes, Mctavish is a close second.  Interestingly, the distressed brown looked like they were tinted a pleasing olive green when I took them out of the box under fluorescent lights but they look like a normal brown under natural sunlight or incandescent lights.

The shell Cambridges are the Lincolns of my shoe fleet--my brown shell Norwiches are my Cadillacs.

The walnut Jeffersons--the lambskin lining is markedly soft.  Try on something from the Independence line, your feet will thank you.

AE Walnut Lombards, which are similar to AE Players, except that this pair of Lombards has my three favorite features, rubber soles, rubber heels,

and Poiron insoles.  Others out there my age (or older) might remember when many dress shoes came with flat laces.  I have replaced the round AE laces with flat waxed dress laces from shoelacesexpress.com.

Do you guys think an AE store would price match/ship the Neumoks from the Nordstrom sale but in red?

Congrats. They resemble my brown antibes Park Ave's in that light:

Planning on visiting the AE store in the city tomorrow.

Not sure what I'm going to come home with, but on my shortlist I have the following:

Cambridge (or burgundy calf alternates)
Shell Patriot
Boat shoes (Center Fielder / Eastport)
Shell Strand
snuff Neumok

Do the stores keep inventory of shell shoes on hand or is anything made with shell a special order through AE?

They went made to order with the shell about a year ago, but they may have old stock of the shell shoes.  Good luck!

My new strands that I was able to get thanks to a very helpful SA at Nordstrom

My brown shell Patriots fit snug but pretty much perfectly so I ordered the burgundy also. Much to my surprise they are about a quarter size larger. My right foot is just a bit smaller than my left which is common and when the heel hit the ground they flared badly, and when they closed they would push air out. Great, now a loafer with bowing issues! Several AE SA have said minor bowing like that is caused by lack of foot volume but I already wear superfeet insoles. I purchased a pair of thin odor eaters and using only the right one cut it so it is only about long as the superfeet inserts. The bowing and gush of air went away. Might be worth a try.

If it is major bowing you can measure it by comparing the right shoe against the throat opening in the left. It is too large there is nothing you can do except send them back to QA to have them check it and replace it if it is out of specs.

Thanks much CI. As always, your suggestion makes sense. The bowing is not too much, so I will try the inserts. I will post the update here back soon.

I tried this. Inserts along with adjusting walking style (pressing heels first) helped a lot. So the noise is almost gone but not completely. I can live with this given the fact that lots of women started flirting with me esp on days I am out with these babies. Suddenly I have become attractive I guess!!! bigstar[1].gif

This might be terrible advice, but start hunting for your next pair.  Takes your mind off of it, and then eventually voila it shows up.

hang in there, the advice above is sound IMO. This too shall pass and it will be on to the next one.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. About to pull the trigger on one or two MTO's but really wanting my Bayfields. I feel like if I could just get a straight answer about their status it would be as bad. A month ago they were in final finishing, then a week later they had not been started and would be a few weeks and now I have asked three times just for an update and can't seem to get it...

Weirdest thing ever:   a pair of walnut shell Bayfields arrived today.  I never ordered them, but they're perfect and my size. How in the world does something like that happen?
