I know many here ordered the Amsterdam. Can someone post pics of them being worn in the wild?

Obviously you can't buy used shoes from someone off of ebay and then send them back to AE.

Keeping with this topic, does the same go for a site like Zappos.com where you buy the shoes new and at full price? I ask out of mere curiosity because I just returned my Navy Neumoks back to Zappos because a lot of seams were coming undone on the right shoe and for an AE shoe, I just couldn't accept that, a lesser brand maybe.
Could I have just skipped doing the return with Zappos and done the return with AE? I already returned them, but for future reference it would be helpful (I used Zappos because they accept PayPal.)

One good thing came out of it was Zappos gave me a 75$ coupon for my next purchase, can't go wrong with that.

Sorry, I didn't see how that was misunderstood. The whole conversation was started by Mingus asking if we thought he should keep them or return them. I said I thought he was justified in returning them. Obviously you can't buy used shoes from someone off of ebay and then send them back to AE.

Perhaps someone was referring to AE's recrafting service?

Also, a question for the field. Does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative to the Clifton that would look good in a burgandy or dark brown? I do like the 5th Avenue, but I think that the blucher style would probably work better based on my typical wardrobe.

I'm under the impression that you can't stack promo codes.

It wasn't a promo code. Amazon had reduced a bunch of the AE shoes themselves to 20% below normal. So when you load the page with the shoes, the price listed was already $268 or whatever. Then you add a 20% promo code.

The discount applied to both colors of Vernons, so that even without a promo code they would've been $268 each. The 20% promo code applies to the entire purchase, and then you can indeed use a gift card on top of that.

What don't you like about the clifton? If it's availability, Nordstrom has them and so does the ShoeBank. My Burgundy Cliftons are one of my favorites!

What is this ShoeBank everyone is talking about? Is this a site you can order online from, because I'm not able to find it.

I sort of doubt it. 8EE or even 8EEE would be a better candidate. Going down to a B width with only a 1/2 size up is going to be quite narrow.

i am no expert but I would say no half size larger but alot more narrow

I am just hoping they fit. On AE website it said 7-97 last is flat around the toe area. Meaning this last is quite roomy ? Anyone here own this pair or pairs on the same last could you please comment on fit.
My correct sizing for AE strands is 7.5 EEE and on Fifth ST boots 8 D. How far am I from 8.5 B ?
I have AE strands in 8EEE - which fits really loose(a little bit too long on the toe box and a bit way too much space around the toe). I wear 2 insoles and fits perfect . So I am about 7.5 EEE in AE strands.
I have AE Fifth ST boots. I have them in size 8.5D. They are a bit too long a a bit too loose. MY perfect size on them would've been 8D

I have received my AE Grayson today. They are US 8.5B. Lucky they fit :slayer:! Just a bit sung around the toe area. But Hopefully stretch over time.
Oh also the shoes looks better with the narrow toe. Much sleeker .

My issue wasn't that I don't like the Clifton's; quite the opposite. It was that the shoe bank didn't have any in my size in burgundy. I have since identified that a SFer has some for sale. But now i'm waffling on whether walnut or burgundy would be a better choice... Decisions decisions!

Couple pictures of my burgundy ones before I polished them up:

The webgems are all kitsch; I ignore their existence.

All webgems, or just the current patent leather ones? There have been some fantastic webgems in the past, many of which have made it into regular production due to their popularity. I can think of many shell cordovan webgems that have been quite popular. Many of the webgems are way to fashion forward for my taste, and it is obviously the area that AE managment allows their design team to go a bit nuts sometimes, but I consider them on a case by case basis since there have been some great ones sprinkled in from time to time.

I may be wrong, since I am not speaking from experience, but I seriously doubt AE would take back a shoe that you didn't purchase from them. The way most manufacterers work is they sell their product to authorized dealers, who in turn sell them to you. If the authorized dealer recieves stock from the manufacterer that is defective, it is up to them to return them to the factory. If you recieve a defective product, you would have to return them the the dealer you bought them from (who may in turn be able to return them to the factory if the feel it is worth it). I would imagine AE would tell you to send them back to Zappos. Depending upon the issue, AE may offer to charge a fee to repair damage, but that wouldn't be in your best interest if you recieved them in damaged condition. All this said, I have also learned not to underestimate AE's customer service, so they may surprise you!
