I need some Shell Cordovan advice/help.
I have 4 pairs of Shell; Park Aves, Strands, Daltons and Patriots (I also have a MTO pair of Shell MacNeils on the way). I wore my Patriots out today and we had a sudden rain burst. Only a couple of minutes, but I got them spotted with rain going into the grocery store. I quickly grabbed a napkin and wiped them down. The spots seemed to be raised a lil. I came home and did the mac method on them, and the spots still seem to have raised up a bit, and are noticeable. Looks weird. I used the deer bone on the spots to see if I could smooth them out and push them back down. This helped some, but they are still noticeable. Any suggestions from anyone that has got theirs wet? Help!!!
Man, the only problem with that webgem selection is choosing which one I want. I want the parks, the strands, and the mccalister! Probably go with Strands. That shoe is just too cool! I love my walnut (first love) and my brown shells.
I was hoping they would add some chili colors.
I have my vintage Berkley from the bay, which I had recrafted and love. Very versatile color.
So, I thought you guys might dig this story.
I became an AE shoe freak about two years ago, which can most likely be blamed on the fact that I inherited some pairs from my step-grandfather, who passed away many years ago.
I wore them (and wore them out) for years without realizing what I had. Then about two years ago, I started paying attention to my wardrobe and went through a stye makeover thanks entirely to my younger brother, who was in high school and loved all things related to men's style, including shoes.
Well, I am a professional and single, so I have the money to amass the ridiculous collection of AE shoes that I have over the past two years. Since we share an interest in style and shoes, I usually brag to him about each pair I acquire, and he reacts appropriately with jealousy!
Two weeks ago, he graduated high school. Our father passed away three years ago, and all of our granparents have passed. So, in thinking about what kind of gift to give him, it occurred to me that a graduation gift should be an heirloom quality item that he can use for most of his life.
I called my Leeds, AL, seconds outlet and they informed me of all shell models in his very large size (13EEE). They had two pair of burgundy shell Park Avenues and two pair of brown shell Strands. I ended up ordering the two brown shell Strands, since I own a pair and love them (pics below).
Incidentally, they were on sale with the two week pre Memorial Day sale, but were still quite expensive. Regardless, the timing was serendipitous. I enlisted the aid of my sister and girlfriend, who wanted to get him a gift of some sort, and we all went in together.
We selected the best pair of seconds (both were pretty good, but one was better) and surprised him on graduation night. He freaked out, as I suspected he woud!
He wore them yesterday for the first time and went to our brand new corporate store in Birmingham in order to fill out a summer job application. (I went by there today, and it is a nice store!)
He sent me a cell phone pic (not a great pic, admittedly) yesterday and told me how comfortable they were and how much he loved them.
Pics of mine (on the right obviously), and his cell phone pic, below:
