So the Bayfield is gone now?

$#!T

Does anybody know if the outlets have any? Any suggestions for a similar boot at a similar price? I like the Red Wing Heritage and Wolverine 1000 Mile but that's not the look I'm going for.

I don't know how you manage to go down to the 9.5 though? That seems like much.
Or maybe you could understand that different lasts fit in different ways, ESPECIALLY for someone with a EEE width.

The Park Ave is tight on me at a 10EEE, but the Strand fits snuggly at 9.5EEE with some heel slippage at 10EEE (and significant slippage at 10.5EEE).  However, I have found that both are slightly too narrow for all-day wear.

I do understand that different lasts fit in different ways. However, I didn't expect them to be *as* drastic as they are. I'm suspecting I'd have to order the Sandlot in a 12EEE for it to fit.

Someone informed me that in a recent (either Oct. or Nov) issue of GQ Magazine, Leonardo DiCaprio is seen wearing AE Leeds shoes. Here's the pic, you can click for a larger version:

I'm not sure if they are cordovan or calfskin?

But thought I'd share the photo.

You have to embrace the shoe stretcher.

I was talking to the schmuck who posted the dumbass comment below your original one.

re: Bayfields and broken eyelets

broken eyelet

broken eyelet

aaand broken eyelet

I'm glad these didn't fit me after all. in theory they are nice but construction seems subpar, so many reports of this same exact defect

Not sure if I should keep them or not still. I think they look great, but I already have a brown casual wingtip...although they don't have the contrast sole or stiching. What do you guys think? Is the Macneil different enough from my old standby brown wingtip to warrant keeping it?:

I've been tempted by the brown distressed leather MacNeil, as well. But in your picture, I find no comparison - the walnut looks so much better. If you have room for another pair, the brown is fine. But if it takes away from or is superfluous to your walnut, I'd send them back.

And thanks for posting pics, btw.. As I said, I've been thinking of the brown ones as well...

Hmm, the list I have shows the Park Ave and Strand as being based on the same last. Wouldn't have expected that, or maybe they changed it? confused.gif

Black colored AEs tend to be "stiffer" than their lighter colored shoes of the same model. Both strand and PA are on the same last. If your PAs are too tight you may want to try putting on some AE leather/conditioner cleaner on it. It'll soften the leather a bit.

Stopped by Freeport store today to see Edward and try on the MacNeil longwing in Burgundy Shell, which I hope to buy during the next sale. He didn't have my size in that color but can get them for the sale, scheduled for Feb.

I tried on the calf MacNeil to get an idea of fit and as expected the 11D seemed to fit fine (I'm an 11D in most AE lasts). I can't imagine there would be any fit differential between shell and calf, correct? Do any of you guys own the same shoe in calf and shell? Is there a size difference?

The only shell he had in my size was the Westchester loafer. It's on the same last as the MacNeil but I'm not encouraged by the fact that it's a loafer and the MacNeil is a lace-up blucher. The shell Westchester was also an 11D and seemed to fit fine. Any thoughts?

my experience with MacNeils calf and shell are to go with the same size..I have the Westchester in calf but have to size down (half) as I prefer wearing loafers a little snug, and with or without socks during S/S months..Hope this will help
