I stopped quickly to inquire, the only AE model I was familiar with on sale will be the player shoes for $199. About 5 others, that again, the names did not sound familiar to me.

They fit a little more lose than other AE shoes on the same last. The fit in the toe box is spot on but my heel does slip a little. Besides from this minor fit issue i'm loving the way they look.

That's normal while they are new. Once the soles are broken in and flex more easily the heel slippage should diminish.

Those look really nice. I agree that's a better looking shoe than the Alden 990.

You should consider using a pen to set the creases on new shell cordovan shoes. It's not always perfect, but it helps to keep the creases symmetric.

I really prefer to just wear them and then they will wear in naturally.

Those look phenomenal!! Imagine that--a semi-custom shell make-up in just a couple weeks. Alden are you listening (of course not). Congratulations!

Very nice--I agree with you in that the #1 last is a much better last (at least for me) than the barrie blob and makes the Leeds a better fitting shoe (and sleeker) in general than the Alden version.

Would those heel pads be a better option than an insole?

My non-shell daltons also fit great except the left heel slips a little (different size probably would not have been an option since my slightly larger left foot fits perfect).

I have the same problem in my LLBean chippewa boots when wearing thinner socks...and I think it is unique to ankle boots. I think the lower tie point of a regular shoe pulls tighter around the heel and is better at arresting the slip.

I've seen these sorts of things suggested as an option for fixing heel fit (since the rest of the shoe fits and I would only want to put it on the left side)

I have a narrow heel and have tried similar things. The result is always imperfect. I'm now much pickier about which shoes fit and which do not.

What's the difference between "Walnut" and "Walnut Calf"?

Walnut's a color, calf is a material. AE also makes Walnut-colored shoes in cordovan leather, IIRC.

Why are there both "walnut" and "walnut calf"? Certainly the walnut is not cordovan, at that price.

Seems like an amazon mistake to me, no need to over think it...
