AE has some great small town service for a big company.

My WebGem order of the BRIGHT BLUE custom Neumoks was ordered on 03/03/13. They promised a 03/19/13 date of arrival. Well, they called me to let me know they were running a little behind, but my shoes were in the mail today coming to me overnight.

I can't wait to see them!

He talks briefly about spending 2 years developing the new golf shoes and working with Jack Nicklaus to design them. They also show some of the new golf shoes including the soles and why they are made the way they are. After the golf shoes are out on the 28th I'll take a look at them and likely will buy a pair for my oldest son and myself.

My girlfriend sent me an email just a few minutes ago that she went to my house to let the dog out and there was a package on the front steps. She brought it in and noticed the bottom was wet and that it was from Allen Edmonds. So opened it and there were several bottles in it all frozen solid and one was broken. Don't think it has hit double digits above zero F yet today. I had just ordered 2 jars of Venetian Shoe Cream and 3 edge dressings. Sometimes I miss UPS.

I'm an 8.5E in my McAllisters and Strands, and they fit very well. I got a list of 9D seconds just for kicks, and boy are there a TON of more shoes in that size, including a pair of Daltons. I've never tried on the Daltons, and I'm curious if I could make a 9D on the 1 last work. Plus that's my last name, so there's some definite bias.

Any input on the fit is appreciated. I might go try them on at the local store, but I'm in public accounting and can only do errands like that on Sundays baldy[1].gif

Different strokes for different folks, but I have both the Strand and the Dalton in the same E-width size.  Lucky for me, they work.  I'd definitely give the 9D a shot if I were you.  You can always return them if they don't work.

And yes, it sucks that the D-width selection is way more than the Es.

At first, I was told it would be six to eight weeks for replacement, since the Fifth Streets are now MTO. However, they were made immediately and overnighted. I should have them today, along with a pair of shoe trees and some polish. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

My Black & Orange Neumoks will be here tomorrow, so it's like Christmas in March!

first impressions:

I think I got a heck of a deal with a burgundy shell mcgraw for 125, but I'm not crazy about the fit.
for reference, I'm a 12D, take an 11.5 in the unlined Shell Alden LHS on the Van last, and find that these fit well in length, but seem to be a touch wide. (i'm getting some "bowing" when I walk)

I'm not complaining, but feel if I were going to pay full whack for these I may want to go down a size width wise.

Even though Fifth st are discontinued for ae. They still produce them for Nordstorm and even for amazon.

I just got a new pair of Cambridge seconds delivered today.  They look like firsts to me--no flaws I would've complained about.  I'll include a photo side-by-side with an old McNeil to compare the different shades of cordovan.  The new ones look darker.

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but here goes anyway:

What should I do with some salt-stained refcrafted AE Bentons?

First off the story: I'm pretty new to nice shoes, and these AE's were, for about a decade, the only nice shoes I owned -- I bought them at Nordstrom when I bought my first suit for my first job interview. Anyway, lots of wear, but I was decent about cleaning, polishing and keeping in trees. This winter in Boston I had to dress up quite a lot, and ended up salt staining my Bentons on the toes -- entirely my fault. But this was the first time I've ever done this, and so learned about recrafting and dropped off my shoes at the Boston Newbury street store for recrafting -- thinking that AE will fix 'em up. $150 later, then send me my shoes back and they are nicely re-soled but have massive stains on them.

From the AE email they send you when your recrafted shoes are ready:

Before:

After:

I can post more pics tonight when I get home, but you can see the darkening on the tip. This is way worse in person, and on both shoes -- the shoes are basically unwearable.

I email back AE and tell the truth: I think they did a good job with the rest of the shoe, but I would never have paid $150 if I knew they were going to come back with stains still on them making them unwearable.

AE to their absolute credit, is refunding me. And I'll just buy a new pair of AE's with it. So three cheers for their customer service when something goes wrong -- they could have told me tough shit, but they did the right thing, and I totally appreciate it. I've already invested in some galoshes and hope to never repeat this mistake of salt staining.

The question for you fine people is: what to do with these shoes? Is there any theory that I could use black polish to try to "blend" or otherwise make the stained part seem not so bad/obvious? I guess I could try to sell them with huge warning labels, but that seems like trouble. Any thoughts on what to do with them?

Thanks!

Jesse

In case anyone wants first Daltons, Amazon's running a pretty okay sale.

Amazon's return policies are top notch as well.

I came to say almost the exact same thing.  My 11.5D players are perfectly snug, but the 11.5D shell cordo mcgraws are just a bit wide.  Actually, only one foot is, which makes sense as one of my feet is more wide than the other.  They have an 11.5B available, but I wonder if that would be way too snug...

Also, they won't give me the 11.5B for $125, so I'd have to buy them at full price.  How easy is it to unload these if if I wanted to go that route?

Fifth Avenue or Park Avenue? Is the difference just the brogue around the toe cap?

Yes, that is the only difference. What color ate you planning on getting? If not black, then don't get the PA.

This is the green that was available from the custom webgem Neumoks.
Props to AE for overnighting these to me even though they didn't have to.

Those are good looking. I can't wait to get my all blue custom Neumoks tomorrow. AE is overnighting mine so they'll be here tomorrow. I'd take off to receive them...except everyone at work would assume I'm playing hooky watching basketball.

To reinforce the crazy amount of seconds in stock for D widths:

8.5E Walnut Strand seconds: 5

9D Walnut Strand seconds: 62

Speaking of that, there's a pair of both Cordovan Walnut Strands and Cordovan Walnut Daltons, as seconds in 9D. Someone needs to pick those up!
