...I've been looking for a pair of walnut grained longwings, and I already have a pair of MacNeils in black that fit me well. So I was happy to see they now offer these in walnut grain and on sale.

Did you have to size up in yours? This is the one model of AE that I have had to. Having done that, they fit great.

both my Grain and shell MacNeils are 7D and it fits me well...I size down to 6.5 on #5 (Strand) ...Check the AE shoebank as they have the Mac's in shell once in awhile..I can't pass on the cordo when I got 'em for $300 5 yrs ago

How does the Macneil fit comparing to Park Avenue? On their website, customer review said they are a bit wider comparing to Park Avenue, could any Macneil's owner confirm this? I am a 9D in Park Avenue, what size should I get for Macneil? Thanks.

i wear 6.5D Strand (same last as PA) but I wear 7D on Macs (#7)..but again, it would be best if you can try 'em first.

MacNeil is probably my favorite AE b/c of versatility, preferred MC casual look and #7 is best for me. I've had my Walnut Grain since for years and I prefer them with scuffs, nicks and bruises. Adds more character imo
I personally would wear the Boston for suiting, more elegant because of its elongated last; Norwich is nice too, but i tend to wear double sole on the casual side...I think you can't go wrong either way.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think the Boston is durable enough to wear on a weekly basis? I am on my feet 6-7 hours a day. Also, why no to the lombards? Anyways, at $120 do you think I should pick up the lomabrds and wear them with jeans? Or do you think that wont look good?

I personally would wear the Boston for suiting, more elegant because of its elongated last; Norwich is nice too, but i tend to wear double sole on the casual side...I think you can't go wrong either way.

Norwich is on the Executive last, same as the Lombard. These run really narrow. Not sure how the Boston runs, but if you have wider feet, try on the Executive last shoes before you buy.

I think so specially if just around office/carpeted environment. Also depending on how much walking you do on hard concrete pavements. I prefer wearing blucher style with jeans and Lombards has brogueing for a casual look, and for that price, is this brand new? I would get the Lombards (rubber sole) if I have to walk distances from train/car to work specially during inclement weather (from Chicago here) .

The other week I picked up a pair of the Dalton's - I love the way they look and they fit well and are quite comfortable. That weekend I was polishing them and noticed that the outside upper on the right boot seemed odd. It was quite a bit "puckery" - a bit difficult to describe but compared to the rest of the panels on the shoe it was like an unmade bunk in a USMC barracks. At first I thought perhaps it needed some additional Conditioner & Cleaner because, well, that fixes *everything*. Turns out it has its limits. After looking at all of my other shoes and boots it seemed the only one with this condition so I figured I'd bring it back to my local shop and ask about it.

Why didn't I notice this in the store, an astute reader might ask? Good question. I'd already decided on the boot but wanted to make sure I got the right fit so my SA had brought in a number of pairs in my normal range (the 10D that fits me so well on all the AE #5 lasts turned out to be the right fit for the Dalton, btw). During the fitting I really wasn't inspecting the shoe, just pulling them on and lacing them up to then walk around and verify the fit - and the funky area is hidden once your trouser leg is hanging properly.

Anywhooo to make a long story longer they'd been sitting under my desk here at the office since last Friday and today I finally had the convergence of spare time and good weather that allowed me to walk up to the store. My SA examined them and, without any prompting from me, accepted them back and entered an order for a replacement pair. Color me very happy with continuing great customer service at my local AE store (S LaSalle St in Chicago).

The Strand is about as much of brogueing that I can deal with. And even that's a bit too much. I wish they had something with more minor brogueing. Alas.

I think so. Others may disagree because of the subjective nature of "great deal"? and what's your tolerance of factory seconds shortcomings. Members will point you to B&S or bay, which are not good venues for me because of limited items for my size. Personally, if you are lock with Boston and you have tried them in person, I would go with member Allaboutshoes, I believe you can get this first for an additional $20-25. Send him a pm to confirm

Mora is a fora favorite b/c of its classic design and recent dub monks explosion. And it does look great IMO. But I also learned the hard way that items that looks great on others doesn't mean will flatter my looks due to body shape, style and other physical attributes.

Does anyone have real life pictures of the Strand in smaller sizes, such as 8D?
I recently bought one during the Land's End sale and chose 8D because that's my size in the 5 last.
I'm a tad worried though, because I find balmorals tend to look a bit odd on smaller feet and all the broguing on the Strand may end up a bit busy!
