Picked up my first AE's .
Mc Allisters and Strands in walnut calf.
Im definitely happy with my purchase.

Thanks to member Allaboutshoes, since i wear a 12 E, they took about 6 weeks to arrive, but it was well worth it.
Shouts to Allaboutshoes, professional, patient dude.
I'd definitely recommend!

Which do you guys recommend for work? I wear suit and ties to work every day, im leaning more towards the strands.

The walnut color, and brogues are more informal, so technically they are both in the realm of casual. Luckily it really doesn't matter now a days, unless your work is pretty conservative. But yes, the Strand would be your best bet.

Beautiful shoes by the way, enjoy.

any recommendations for black AE that can be
dressed up for a suit and down w/ dark blue jeans?
- I was originally looking at PA but after further forum
searches have found that many members feel that PA
are too formal for jeans.

The conventional response is that PAs are too formal for jeans. In light of that, I have worn my black PAs with dark jeans, sport shirt, and sport coat as well as some similar combinations. To be fair, I only do this when I travel since I have limited room in my luggage for shoes. Nonetheless, it works fine in most settings.

Player's, Jefferson, or other blucher style shoes. If you do not work in an extremely formal environment, black bluchers will look more formal than the sea of loafers and suits.

As JubieSpiegel pointed out, the Kenilworth may work. I'd also try the Leeds and macneil. However, if you don't absolutely have to do black, the Leeds and Macneil in burgundy shell work great with business and casual attire. That's the appeal for me. Those models can do double duty for my frequent business travel.

I did my Shelton's about a month ago and thanked you for the tip on the Renomat http://www.styleforum.net/t/141581/allen-edmonds-appreciation-thread/4185#post_5348184 and would like to thank you again. It is great stuff, helped make my Shelton's look like new shoes. Really wished I had done a before pic but had no idea it would work that well!

Yeah I do have some MDO and still playing with it. Love the cream though. Used black Kiwi for 20 years in the military and after awhile you get a feel for it (literally) when doing a spit shine. MDO is different, but I'm starting to like it. Working on my Jefferson's trying to shine the wingtip section and heel counters to highlight the brogue but it is going to take a bit longer than I expected to get it where I want.

Thanks Cold Iron. I appreciate the kind words. Look forward to seeing the Jefferson's. They are a terrific looking shoe and the leather on that line is really worth the upcharge.

Not sure if they have the model you are after, but try endless.com for very very good shipping rates ($10 couriered to Aus). Also a lot of the US department stores have good int. shipping through the Fifty One checkout system (eg Nordstrom which has a lot of AE models). Currently endless is having 20% off most AE models FYI (also ~8% cash back through ebates/fat wallet).

I looked the last 10 pages, and I'm on a slow connection.

So - is this 2 for $200 deal still happening and if so where/ how can I get it?

Thanks.

I never did get the matching cappuccino polish, but I like the light brown as an alternative. I actually replicated the toe burnishing from the Kenilworth, so I use both the AE light brown and dark brown cream and wax

The more I think about it the more I like it. Think it will take a great shoe and make it even better. Thank you good sir!!

Looking to buy a pair of Bayfield boot for work..

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF7801C_1_40000000001_-1

Are there other web stores that ship internationally?

Not sure if the shoebank ships internationally but the 2 for $200 sale includes black bayfields. I would most definitely check with them. I got my black Bayfield's last night and even though they are seconds you can not tell the difference from my brown Bayfields. It is a great boot and if they ship internationally you could pick up 2 for less than the price of one and rotate them. The black looks like it will take a shine well compared to the brown which will not.

Good luck!

2 for $200 runs thru the 13th I believe, but most of the common sizes are going fast.

This. Although all the advice presented so far is good too. One of my first pair of AE shoes was Leeds in black calf. IMO they fit in well with everything. Never too much shoe or too little. After getting my burgundy shell Leeds I almost never wear the black Leeds except for when a black shoe is required such as weddings, funerals, etc. Eventually I will get the black PA but I do not feel that I'm ever under gunned wearing the Leeds. My shell Leeds are 3.5 years old and just keep getting better with age and brushing. They are totally worth the money and the first shoe I grab when in doubt what to wear. The look with jeans is timeless and classic with the burgundy shell Leeds. It is also the shoe I usually go to for my most important meetings.
