Things That Scare You

So I'm watching an old time alt. band that used to be one of my all time favs: AIC. Watching the Unplugged session they did. Lane was a few years older than me, but was clearly on self-destruct by the time of the Unplugged session.

Scares the shit out of me. Guy had it all in the early 90s, but somehow, that wasn't enough. He joined a long line of musical self-destruct stories. Drugs, ETOH, etc. Scares the shit out of me.

What stops me from just getting done with life and doing the same thing? I'm not sure.

What scares you?

I thought Staley was on self-destruct for a long, long time before Unplugged. Dirt was disturbing enough!

What makes me uncomfortable to think about is...being average. Normal. Not all that smart, after all.

really only two things really scare me -

1. something happening to my family, espectially something random and rapid to one of my kids: one of them choking or having a fatal alergic reaction to something that they have never had before or something like that.

2. my company being sold. for complex reasons, that would be fucking horrible for me. it isn't actually that likely, but it scares me

Oh yeah, on the self-destruct. Youtube one of the songs from that session.

I've accepted my average, normal status a long time ago. It's one of those things that adds to the voices wanting to just take Lane's way out.

Fundamental Christians who believe that the Bible Should be the basis of government. Seriously. This is not a strawman and I am a Christian. If you don't realize that this is a real issue, you haven't spoken to a Midwestern Christian Fundamentalist in a while. But I have.

I've been poor...actually under the federal poverty level for most of my first 25 years or so. It seems to me, I had much less stress, more free time, and slept better at night.

Both my parents grew up under the federal poverty level and they had decent upbringings so I'm well aware that it's doable...It's just not something I want to experience firsthand.

Count yourself lucky then, that your parents are working schmucks like me, so you can lead a life of affluence.
