Monitor buying tips? - Page 2

The most important thing to know before buying is the technology. TN is the cheapest LCD panel technology which is suitable for what your wife is looking to do.

S-PVA/MVA is the next step up and then there is the S-IPS which is the best technology at the moment. Eizo and NEC both make really good panels using S-PVA and S-IPS...

If you want to get more in-depth, read this guide. I found it helpful: http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y EDIT: This guide discusses the differences between different panel types (TN, IPS, etc) and makes recommendations for different budgets and uses (office, multimedia, and so on).

You might need to order a cable to connect the laptop to the monitor. If it's a unibody macbook, then you'll probably want a Mini Displayport Cable - Around $20. But again, it depends on the model of macbook she has. Older models have a DVI port, in which case no additional cable is necessary. Too bad, it was a really good (and cheap - $180) IPS screen.

For the extra real estate guys, do you just keep documents open on the 2nd monitor and use the main for apps and surfing?

As big as this fucking thing is I can't imagine having 2 of them taking up the entire desk.

Get a bigger desk, tbh.

When I get my monitor for my MBP, I'll just connect my wireless keyboard and mouse and call it a day.
