I feel like there are things i'd like to do, but if i place 'reward' vs 'risk' into the scales there is never a clear winner.

how have you determined whether or not to take the risks in your life, or whether to play it safe?

You only live once. Take all the damn risks you can.

The inverse of this statement also makes sense. i.e. You only live once so don't fuck it up. I don't know what to tell you, robbie. Just do what you think is best.

just do it and handle the consequences as they come. "risk" is a crapshoot anyways.

On a serious note, live a life of moderation. You can't really ask for someone's opinion. Yes, they can offer you some advice or insight from a different view point, but at the end of the day, you have to live with the choices you make/made.

And if you ever come to a point where the options stack up equally in risk and reward, flip a coin.

Life wouldn't be fun if you didn't go all in every now and then. Bet it all and see what happens.

start a small ' fan-zine' type publication with some friends, not necessarily with the intent of profit at first... but for fun, and to approach magazines subjectively [or objectively, i always confuse the two] as opposed to 'ohh we love this thing our advertisers are paying us to talk to you about'

i would really like to fly to provincetown, MA rent a car and follow rte. 6 west to California through ohio, pennsylvania.... stopping along the way whenever id like to, and then compile it all into a 'coffee table' type book with an accompanying cd of audio for various pages, etc.

I also want to apply to art school.

Okay cool. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't pursue these dreams. You're young, married, don't have children, and have a job that allows for some flexibility. Assuming your wife is supportive there shouldn't be anything holding you back! The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to do any of these things...

Rarely will you know beforehand that taking a risk is the right thing to do. That's the way risks work. Should I drop out of school and move to the Caribbean? It could be a great thing or a total waste of time and money. Never know till you do it.

Do all of the above.

The only thing you should NOT do is go into serious debt for your cross country trip. Of course you could get into art school first and then attempt to get a grant to pay for it or at the very least make it a class project and get financial aid to cover part of it.

Very good advice from Norcal. The only thing I'd add to that is to fly to Boston, rent a car there, then take the ferry to P-town.

is there something you're not telling us Robbie?

i guess i miss what the relevance of me wanting to fly to provincetown is...

is that east coast slang for i wanna join teh gheyz or something?

i really only said it because its the farthest east my finger could trace route/highway 6 on a map. . I could get on a road here in omaha, Dodge Street, and essentially follow it east til i hit the ocean.

[EDIT ---looking at the map now it makes sense why it would be a better idea to fly into boston. I really just sort of assumed that the road that was '6' and west of boston is the same '6' east of boston. and i figured cape cod had enough rich people in it that a plane could connect bawstinnnn to it and i could fly ]

for a time i wanted to do the same w/ my wife but along rte 66, I'd rather make it a cross country trip.

i certainly think it would be a great senior 'thesis' or project.

i am still struggling with self image issues, i know that these fears are irrelevant... but old habbits [second guessing my talents/gifts] die REALLY hard.
