I grew up in SD- not too much in terms of new clothes, though as mentioned fashion valley does have a CO-OP (but it does not have shoes). Buffalo Exchange in Hillcrest is good thrifting, Mint is an okay sneaker shop also in Hillcrest (university), but a bit pricey. Last time I was in La Jolla, some terrible boutique was going under and had Nudies dirt cheap if your in to that sort of thing.
