http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postg...e_funding.html "You need to think about how you will fund your study as early as possible and, if you are offered a place, you will be asked to provide proof that you are able to finance the cost of your programme and living expenses." And in more detail: http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postg...guarantee.html "You will need to submit copies of documentation detailing any awards, scholarships or sponsorship you have identified to confirm the information provided. Where funds are being supplied by yourself, family, or a private sponsor, a bank letter or other documents will be needed to guarantee that monies are available." Edit: Anyway, I found a way to fund 3/4 of it; I will be able to work my way through for the rest. (Assuming I get in, and the odds are still against me in that respect. I may, however, be meeting a few professors from Oxford in a few weeks, so I can imagine a possible scenario in which that would help my chances.)

Yea, see if you can get in first though... I understand that if you get in, the school will help you to ensure that you have enough funding.

You will also have to provide proof of funds to get a student visa into the UK.

If this is for a doctorate, as others have suggested, why on earth would you take on debt to do it? If you're able to get into Oxford, then you should be able to get into good US programs, all of which will typically pay your tuition and provide an adequate stipend for living expenses.
