New condo. Suggestions for furnishing please?

I got a condo and now I have to furnish it. I have 1400 sq ft. to play with. I am in my mid twenties and will be living alone. There is: Master Bed Second Bedroom - This will be TV room/entertainment room/need convertible sofas for guests, etc. Living Room & Dining Area (hardwood) Study - got this taken care of easily The building design is federal and most people go very traditional. I am partial to the modern pieces favored here (Florence Knoll sofa ) and would like to utilize some signature pieces. Please ignore the furniture in the staging pics, it is awful. I have Silhouettes (sheer blinds) for the windows. I am already in possession at my current abode of an Eames' lounge and ottoman and two black Barcelona chairs which I would like to incorporate. Walk in: Living area: Master bed: Master bath: 2nd bed: Kitchen/Dining: Balcony - who makes nice furniture for this application? All suggestions welcomed. Note the place is empty - none of the crap in the pics is there, thankfully.

Looks very nice. Updated furnishings will definitely make a huge difference. Love the bathroom. What color fabric are you considering for the living room sofa? Considering any area rugs? Some bar stools would really add to the area. You could go with something that contrasts the wood floors, or something that matches, like this: http://www.laflat.com/bar-stool-bs183-p-4063.html If you can, I'd looking into getting some new lighting for the living room.

I really like those bar stools and the match. I may just get them. There is a "breakfast bar" where they will go properly.

As for the sofa, I am sucker for this one:

Not sure how well the brown would go. Would consider the off-white version as well.

If I had it my way, I would have that sofa along the wall, a Noguchi coffee table, and a Barcelona chair & ottoman on the opposite side, on top of a bordered sisal area rug with a marble top Saarinen dining table in the corner. I'm not sure if that's just way too out-of-DWR-catalog-ish though, but I do love the look.

if you want to un-DWR it a bit, take the time to raid a few antique stores. I found an awesome coffee table and plenty of knick knacks (a platinum-frosted bar set from the 1960's anyone?) and it made big difference.

Also, paint! Add a lot of character to the room.

cb2.com also had some nice stuff on a budget (but that does not appear to be the case)

Agree with both paint and antique stores. As for budget, I should say Knoll-style as the real leather article would probably blow most of my budget.

I would put up a thin crown molding all around.
Real ceiling light fixture for the dining table.
Hardwood floor instead of carpet would be my first investment.
Shower cabin with steam would be my second investment instead of a bath tub.
I would definitely paint the walls white cause that brownish color is awful.
Off-white sofa is a good choice, red would be good as well.
Look into chesterfield sofas they might be cheaper than Knoll and you might find a gem in Antique store or at Estate sale.

What do you recommend for a light fixture? I know nothing about lighting. Not sure how much actual modifications I want to make that I can't take with me. I am probably here for a year then want to move to the West Coast. The brownish color is not nearly as offensive in person but I may try to sneak some white in. By the way, I am pretty happy with the bathroom as is: Thanks for the sofa recommendation. It should be a nice place to celebrate my quarter life crisis, brown walls and all.

Corporate. But they won't furnish it. OK with me.

I'd kill for a lighting figure from Hudson Furniture Inc. My walls are painted a similar grey to their display pics, it would be perfect!

Oh in that case forget what I wrote I did not see that wonderful walk-in shower at first.

If you there just for one year don't burden yourself with too much furniture. Buy just the essential pieces that you would love to own for a long time...
