Can you imagine how that guy felt when he had dug up the first 2 pounds of gold and there was still more there??? He's lucky he didn't have a heart attack!

That has to be the weight-value of the gold or something. The collector/museum value of that gold (and gems) is probably priceless.

I like this part:

Quote:
Kevin Leahy, an expert on Anglo Saxon metal who helped catalogue the find, was impressed by the craftsmanship that went into each item.

"There is absolutely nothing feminine," he told The Guardian newspaper.

"His find was kept secret until Thursday to allow experts to examine each piece and hold a coronial inquiry, which officially classified the hoard as treasure."

I originally thought of treasure trove (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasur...sh_common_law), when I heard of the story. But it appears this lacks the "animus revocandi, that is, an intention to recover it later".

Hmm, read down, and in the UK, they legislated to get rid of the notion of treasure trove to allow the Crown to have title in just treasure. So the finder does not have title, but may be paid a reward.
