I read the blog - the previous one wasn't seamless. It does seem difficult - you'd have to stretch the leather an awful lot.

The back CAN be seamless, just haven't seen it done on a whole cut. Maybe that's your point...

The leather will need extensive blocking (crimping).

The damp (or even wet) leather gets pulled and stretched over the last. Then after slowly drying it will have acquired the desired shape. I have spoken to a "˜closer' who has done a few totally seamless whole cuts in his career and (if I understood it correctly) he starts blocking the hide over the last before even the top opening is cut. It is also important to have the "˜right' leather.

This is absolutelyy correct. On the other hand those leathers are not so strong - some customer would never choose them.
