I just picked this up and I am pretty pleased. Just what I expected. I am pleased with the Bark. However, I wish it was a little darker. A great deal for $35. Comparable to other belts in the...

Well, I could be quite cynical and say that it is a common approach to reducing costs, ridding yourself of highly skilled (and relatively highly paid ) shoemakers/employees, and making the transition to a factory shoe...all the while riding a reputation and a company down to the point that even those who gravitate towards the blatantly superficial recognize the quality is no longer there. I probably won't get any points for adding that "unit soles" are nearly the primary hallmark of cheap. Ask yourself one question...how will you ever repair them when you wear out the sole? Who could do it both credibly...and willingly? To do it right, you would certainly need the original last and the huge 10+ workstation machine that applies these soles. Even to simply skin off the top couple of millimeters with the intention of cementing on another layer, generally requires very toxic cements not readily available, or in very much favour, here in the States.
