What Is My Season (pics included)?

Hey guys,

I am about to buy some new clothes and I would like to get colors that match my "season" (ie, skin, hair eyes). I think I know what I am, but would appreciate any help, as well as some possible colors that would look best.

In case you can't tell from the pictures, my skin is pretty fair and has a red/pink undertone, hair is a dark brown, and eyes are blue.

Fair enough, are there any other methodologies that are believed to be better, or is trial and error the only suggested way to pick one's best colors?

What other methodologies are there that are better? I've always adhered to the seasons. BTW, I'm a Winter. Which makes sense, blue, gray, black look great on me. Yellow and orange...awful.

Books and other guides on the subject are almost worthless. You have a high-contrast complexion that is softened by the friendly face and blue eyes. Dress codes aside, you can wear virtually any color, though some green or blue (including blueish colors like purple) up top will help bring out your eyes.

That's some great advice right there... So, what colors SHOULDN'T he wear and why?

It would be unprofessional for anyone in image consulting to have read nothing about Seasons.

"You can wear virtually any color" was written because it's true. People might want to be told not to wear certain colors because it makes decisions easier, but in his case he can even pull off pink well. (A flesh-colored shirt is not recommended, but that applies to everyone.) If he has trouble deciding, he should consider how any given color reflects his personality.

Of course it's true but that doesn't mean that virtually any color actually looks good. Your posts and criticisms indicate that it's a topic that you don't seem to understand. If the OP (a Winter) would wear Spring and Autumn colors which have golden tones and yellow undertones respectively, his clothes would look dull against his skin and the clothes would give his skin a yellow cast. Why? Because those colors don't compliment his skin tone. Do you know what complementary colors are? Blue undertones / cool colors (think apple - not tomato) and icy, vivid, or true colors are complementary of a winters complexion. Similarly, if someone with red hair and peach colored skin / green eyes would wear true, icy, or contrasting colors, they'd look horrible. I'm not sure that advice is "worthless".

Are you friends with Carole Jackson or something? Your reply is highly disrespectful and meant to be that way. People might not respect image consulting the way they respect clothing makers, but the relative treatment here is galling. You are lucky to get any response.

As stated in bits and pieces over the years, Seasons is for the most part oversimplified and impractical. It would be time-consuming, likely unrewarding, and somewhat unfair (not having read everything) to explain in detail (even in the right sub-forum), but suffice it to say that body language, physical features, dress code, lighting, wardrobe variety, availability of colors at retail, personality preferences in color (subject and observer), etc. take precedence over slight differences in color as relates to complexion. Yes, he might look slightly better in some colors than others, which notably might be different for other people in the overly broad Winter category, but that hardly matters. For women, it might be different, and admittedly it isn't going to do anyone major harm to read Seasons material. Frankly, if examples are included, "Usually wear some non-neutrals" and "Be wary of solids (or near-solids) in children's colors" is adequate advice for most men.
