Church in Netherlands Converted Into Bookstore - Page 2

there is a church turned dance/possibly strip club in OKC.

I was bewildered, when i drove past one day and realized they'd painted the stained glass windows black.

its always strange to me when a church becomes so literally a den of iniquity.

You mean so "visibly" a den of iniquity since some churches have been literally, though secretively, dens of iniquity, particularly those involving certain well-known scandals that we don't even need to mention to understand.

The church the OP linked to was used previously by my fraternity to host a couple of huge rockconcerts and some house parties that made us a nice profit. The bookstore is obviously a step up from my buddies profane use of the place. There is a beautiful hotel nearby that is a converted cloister.

I thought most of Europe's churches had already been converted to gift shops.

Church conversions into residences are/have been quite common in the UK.

There is a house just up the street from me that was once a church. I have to admit, I am jealous of the bell tower.

I am a christian and I have 0 problem with that. God doesnt dwell in a physical structure. The true church is in each of us. I see a lot of old churches converted into homes anyway. Why not a bookstore?

Sure it would. I live in a fairly religious place, but here, churches are buildings. One former church became a science center for learning. Another became the mission (city-run). On the converse, a former pavilion at an old, dinky mall is now a church.

It's beautiful. The architects clearly showed reverence and restraint as well.

Now this is a well-done conversion of an old church:

Mark's Restaurant - Houston

Perhaps, but before it was a restaurant, the building was home to the Dream Merchant, purveyor of rock and roll paraphernalia and fetish wear.

Man I miss that place.

In Houston, Texas (hardly a liberal bastion), I can think of 2 churches that were converted to other uses (one a library and one the best restaurant in town). I've never heard of anyone freaking out about it. The bookstore in the op looks great.

LOL that you consider churchgoers ignorant, yet make such an ignorant post.

Get out more. In my city, located squarely in the Bible Belt, there are churches that have been converted into a post office, lofts, condos, a bookstore, and an electronics shop.
