If so, what site did you use? Interesting results?

I did mine back when Nat Geo was free - I think now you pay $50. Lots of fun!

Can you give any details? What did the service provide? My father was adopted, so I've always wanted to know more about my origins.

What do the results show exactly?

All the info is here: https://genographic.nationalgeograph...hic/index.html

I only got the mitochondrial DNA test - not sure if they were doing the 'Y' test when I did it, or maybe that one wasn't free. I learned that my mum's ancestry is concentrated around Scotland, Finland and Saxony. I exchanged a few emails with a nice lady from Finland that is a very distant relative. It's a lot of fun and the results they give you are very comprehensive and well presented.

My Grandpa (rest his soul) told me from a young age that we were related to Brian Boru. In reality, we are rather closely related to the old Ui Cearbhaill chieftains of Offaly.

My wife and I participated in the National Geographic DNA study a few years ago.

Of course that one didn't tell you anything about your recent heritage, but rather showed your haplogroup which determines the path of migration my ancestors took from africa to europe.

It was interesting in an academic sense.

Do you really want to be giving your DNA to these guys? I am waiting for the home kit to come out.

I've only done a very targeted one. There are two of this type that I know of, one for one of the Khans (Ghengis I want to say) and one for Somerled. I took the one for Somerled and came up with the marker. It was kind of a given, due to where my ancestors came from and my appearance, but still cool to confirm.
