Like the title says, is anyone ever thankful that the general population dresses so poorly, because it makes you look good by comparison?

No. It's not aesthetically pleasing to see all of my coworkers wearing billowy shirts and pants with a pile of fabric on the bottom. It's even worse during the "summer casual" time of year when the dress code is relaxed.

I'm also weary of people commenting on my clothes. It feels good to be among the better/best dressed when I go places, but I get sick of hearing "wow, MrG, you look great, did MrsG dress you?" or "haha that's just MrG, he's kind of a metrosexual."

To me it's akin to going "I'm glad I have a smokin' hot wife/gf, but I really wish all other women were fat and ugly so she'd look even hotter in comparison."

this is how i see it in this analogy: i like to play chess and try to be good at it, so i take some pride in what i know and the skills i have over the board from playing and reading (back in college).
i can set up a board up at a local starbucks and invite people to play but i will beat everyone in just a few moves as no one really cares to play. no one gives a shit about chess. this aint fun. i feel stupid sitting there.

but i go to a chess club, where there are other mediocre players there but they all have a strive to be good chess players. they know some general knowledge. but i can still play a competitive game and beat them. i like that.
