Tennis is killing my feet

I play tennis 2 or 3 times a week and it's making my feet look awful. After I play, I usually have a painful blister on top of my 3rd toe on my left foot. I'm also getting hard skin forming on the outside of both of my big toes. I think my tennis trainers are the correct size, so does anyone have any suggestions on how to protect my feet better when I play?

Bespoke tennis shoes. Duh.

Change shoes. I suggest Barricades.

I'm using Adidas Tirands at the moment, which are similar to Barricades. Do you guys wear special socks or tape up your feet at all?

Few advice: keep toenails short, wear proper sock which wick moist good, wear shoe which is not too large that foot is allowed to slide around in the shoe, but also not too small that skin on top of toe rub against inner toe of shoe. But the hard skin formation is good thing, protective. Similar of callous form on thumb when play tennis regular.

It's your shoes man. Try a different pair, or perhaps Adidas sizing does not work well with your feet.

Replace your shoes. Let them dry for one full day before wearing them again. I store my athletic shoes next to my dehumidifier. Also, fresh socks are important. Pumice stones for the thick skin that builds up from the friction of playing. good luck.

+ 1 for Barricades(just because i use it as well). Tirands are similar though.

For blisters: Use proper sports socks, moisture wicking and also you can get adidas cushioned socks for tennis(6$ for a 2-3pack at most places like tjmaxx and all). I used to spend 15-17hrs per week on courts and they kept my foot dry.

Another thing is your foot might be moving a lot when you play. Adidas in general are a bit wider, so if your foot is narrow Nikes might be the way to go. They have a snugger fit and are also more cushioned than the barricades/tirands. You can also wear 2 pairs of socks, if y ou don't really want to buy shoes at this time.

Thanks for the info guys. I think getting some Nikes might help as I don't have particularly wide feet, so this will cut down on movement within the shoe. If the hard skin development is inevitable then fair enough, I will just use a stone or scraper to remove the worst of it. I will suck it up and get some proper tennis socks as well because the sports socks I'm using aren't amazing at moisture wicking.

I'm glad I don't play on hard courts, or the problem would be a lot worse!

I hope you're talking about breathe frees and not the running shoe because those would be awful for tennis.

+1 to hws

Do you want your feet to look pretty or withstand abuse? If you want them to withstand the abuse of playing tennis several times a week, I'd advise against using a stone or scraper to remove your armor. Callouses are a good thing.

I've heard that Nike Frees are good for lateral movement - meaning they would be great for tennis, no?

^^ If anything get Nike Breathe Frees, as I definitely would NOT play tennis in anything but tennis shoes. I'm currently a competitive junior player playing about 10-15 hours a week, and I would highly recommend getting a good pair of shoes aka Barricades, Nike Air Zoom/ breathe free, Babolat Propulses (although the propulses gave me blisters for the first couple days I wore them...), etc. It's well worth the money.
Also, like people mentioned earlier, wearing two pairs of socks definitely helps. This should help prevent blisters. As for toughening skin (calluses I presume), I think you just need to live with it as long as you're still playing tennis. It's either calluses or blisters.
