Which Alden indy boots is the best in your opinion (excluding the shell cordovan and suede versions)? Regular? Repro? Vintage? Ultimate? Ultimate in black? Kudu Ultimate? Any other one that I do not know?

The links for the ones I know, respectively, are as follows:

Although I did not see in person any of these, to my eye kudu and vintage looks best.

I like the vintage the best; mainly because of that magnificent upper.

I've owned the Vintage Indy since early 2009. The Nubuck has an acquired smell. I don't care much for it. I followed up this purchase with a narrower Snuff Suede Indy and find the latter to fit better and the suede is much softer.

Knowing what I know now, I would have originally gone for the Snuff Suede

I have the Ultimate and I like the leather quality. They take polish well when I scuff them, which I like.

thanks, but I was just looking at them at Tom's site. I'm thiiiis close to pulling my trigger finger on those but alas I have other pursuits to finance at this moment, and I know a year from now I'm gonna hate myself for not ordering these today.

The obvious answer is to collect the entire set.

Standard, cordovan 8, snuff suede, black cordo.

Black cordo, whiskey, 8.

I've got a pair of ultimates too, just no pic.
If I had to pick a single pair, I'd probably go with the the ultimates though.

The whiskey one is so amazing! That particular pair was the main reason why I excluded shell cordo indys from my question. BTW, it appears that whiskey indys do not have storm welt, right? Perhaps that's another point that makes the boots magnificent.

Don't forget the J. Crew edition. Chromexcel with the stock sole and full leather lining:

I only have the vintage indy. Love them, but it would also be hard to wrong with the ultimate in kudu or calf (or indeed the whiskey...).
