Good Business Idea? Asymmetrical Minimalist? Any Clothing Business People Here?

For my entrepreneurship class, I'm asked to create a business plan for a business that I would like to create. I've been thinking about wanting to start my own clothing company, which produces asymmetrical clothing (what inspired me was Alexander McQueen's asymmetrical cardigan). The price tag was hefty, I was thinking about starting my own company that sells clothes at a more affordable price. Do you guys think it is a good business idea? If I do decide to do this, how much would I be looking to invest in this company (I would start selling online before I open my own boutique in nyc)?

How much does it cost to outsource the manufacturing in a third world country (including shipping)?

I was hoping for some members here that own their own clothing line to give me entrepreneurship advice.

Cheers SF

all asymmetric all the time is a shit idea. it's an execution, not a concept.

Now, it's been some time since b-school, so things might have changed, but isn't the idea of this class for you to figure out these questions yourself?

^ yes, but I'm going to need to call up some manufacturers first and I need a final decision on a business idea within the next week. I just wanted a general idea of costs (ballpark amounts) based on experiences that some of you may have.

I'm also thinking about jeans (raw) and regular & plain fitted dress shirts & tee shirts.

Your profs wont question your idea as long as you can back up its viability with proper analysis. Their place is not to make subjective calls of whether your idea is "good", but rather whether you have used appropriate analysis and tools to determine whether it is a worthwhile risk to take. (Unless maybe it is for a fashion entrepreneurship course...)

As to your costs, the range is up to you.

You can pay a couple of dollars a piece or thousands.

You can start trading online for $100 or spend tens of thousands on a site / cart development and marketing, launch parties, PR, etc...

As Pio said, this exercise is about you thinking out your business plan and showing that you have reasonably balanced all the factors you should have learned.

I understand that my prof won't question my idea. But I'd rather create a business plan for a business that I plan on having in the future and was wondering if this was a good business investment/idea.

Again, the concept here is, you figure out if it's a good idea or investment. Otherwise, drop out, and just hire a good consultant.

That was one of the worst post I've ever read. It was a cacophony of idiocy. The user name, the post count, the content, a real perfect storm. Well done.

First and foremost design something new. After designing you will have to physically create it. If you do not know how to sew up your design, hire a seamstress. It is very important to have a physical garment to show interested clients. You can also make a website for your fashion designs so that interested customers can purchase your clothes.
