Suit Alteration Gone Bad in the Back?

So I took two Black Fleece suits in to be altered. The first was a grey pinstripe and the second a navy blue pinstripe

I told him to do some tapering in the back for a better fit on both, but I'm now concerned about the puckering at the center seam, and if it can be easily fixed or not.

Here's the grey pinstripe after getting it back:

Here's one of the same suit without a flash:

Here's the Navy Pinstripe (no flash):

And for comparison, here's a pic of a Black Fleece Suit in the same size as the grey that I tried on in the store (no alterations):

So am I SOL on the two suits, or can I try a different tailor to see if the puckering can be fixed. Are there other problems I should be concerned about?

Thanks

wait what? the unaltered suit looks perfect on you...

correct me if i am wrong, but the coat should be taken in from the sides instead of mid back, which caused the weird pulling at the center back/spine and the shoulders.

Yeah I know

I actually told the tailor to take the grey pinstripe out in the back, and he took it in, so I told him just put it back to the way it was to begin with and the result is what you see in the first few pics...

Yes I'd like to know if that's correct as well, because I'm not sure where it should be done at since I might try another tailor.

Damn, get your money back. It looks like shit.

I would be afraid to let him repair the mistake. I would ask for a refund though and find somebody else. Call up Barney's or Saks Fifth Avenue and ask them who they use for alterations.

He didn't charge me for it in the first place since he did the wrong alteration (taking it in, instead of out)

The question I have is: can it be fixed to look good, and should I ensure that these types of alterations are only done by taking in at the sides instead of center seam?

tailor shoulda known to take from the sides instead of the center in this particular incident. It depends on certain circumstances when to take from the side and when to take from the center. But you can see the jacket has like 1/2" ish excess fabric in the sides which is still there even after he botched the middle.

It dose look pretty bad, but only a bad tailoring job. I sure a confident tailor should be able to minimize the puckering but might not be able to get rid of them indifinatley.

Oy bad luck... I'd definitely go to a different tailor and get it fixed. Looks like the back seam was just sewn up unevenly/badly. A competent tailor should be able to re-do it correctly.

Don't think you can "take out" the gray pinstripes at all. Unless you go bespoke for 1 piece back.

Yeah I think I will only use this tailor for simple alterations and leave the major stuff to someone else if I can find a better tailor. I'm taking these in today to see if a diff tailor can fix them. Problem is I need one of them by this week for a wedding ><

It looks near perfect unaltered. However, I think the alterations can be undone and result in a nice fit. Both are very nice looking suits by the way.

I'd be more concerned by the fact that the stripes are no longer symmetrical. How hard can it be to take the amount out equally from either side of the seam? The puckering is quite bad as well though. I'm quite sure that both these issues could easily be fixed by a competent tailor redoing the back seam.

I've had this happen and it can be repaired. Just have the tailor pin the jacket while it is on you. The back may need to be shortened also.

Well I just dropped off both jackets to a diff tailor today. They said one could be done by tomorrow since I'm going to a wedding this week. The other jacket (navy blue one) will need to be altered back to original state and then they will decide on how to properly take it in.

Pretty happy they can fix on short notice and at the price of $17 for the grey pinstripe

Just hope they do better than the last guy, and that the fabric can withstand three alterations now at the center seam!
