Ha ha ....I was thinking the same.

It's about time they removed the BS about Adam and Eve (and certainly not Steve) and how the Universe was created etc.

Give me a break, is there a rule when you become a Christian that you must have your brain removed first?

I went to a Christian school ...and am not an atheist ...but I sure don't take the Bible as gospel It must be one of the most modified texts in the history of humanity.

I always find it amusing when religious zealots quote passages verbatim ...paying specific attention to the exact words used -- why don't they ever recognize that what they are reading has been translated countless times over the centuries -- it's like a game of Chinese Whispers ....to treat it so literally is just dumb.

I have talked to people who sincerely believe that the bible was originally written in English as in KJV was the original text. No joke. Even worse are people who buy a new bible every year because it is a "more accurate translation of the greek and hebrew" than the last flavor of the month Word of Gawd. Sorta like how people buy Madden every year even though they only change the roster and put some retarded new widget in.

^ ha ha.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with Christianity or religion in general, I just get frustrated when I hear ridiculous claims about history etc. For a very long time, many conservative Christians denied that the Dinosaurs ever even existed -- unfortunately [for them], the evidence for their existence is fairly overwhelming -- so recently I heard the outrageous claim that Dinosaurs lived alongside ancient humans -- a pathetic attempt to try and make sense of Creationism.

i say all this doubting any of it will be taken even remotely seriously.

The Gideons will ship you one free, as will the American Bible Society.

I can't speak for catholics, but most protestant churches will give you a free bible, as well as their own doctrinal information upon request.

They'll most likely give you a new king james or new international version, which are very good versions.... i prefer 'the message' personally. It is a paraphrase, so I usually use it along with my King James version along with it to give things a little more context.

depending on how interested you are, or how much you're willing to spend... there are bibles with the text translated from its original language... it can make it a little bit better especially in the new testament where they were written in greek, hebrew and several other languages originally.

Robbie's advice is good. I'd personally shy away from the King James Version as the manuscripts used in translating aren't as good as the ones that were used for later versions such as the New Kings James Version and English Standard Version. I use the English Standard Version. It's a very good literal translation and has been recommended by Christian professor's I've met.

There you go, Google saves you money yet again. King James for the win! If it ain't got thous and thees then I don't want it.

Seriously tho, stay far away from those crazy reinterpreted nonsense editions. Like the de-gendered version, wtf, worthless and dilutes the meaning.

The best version can be found online.
