It would have been better to see the coat on you. By itself it looks fine.
No one can say truthfully that the coat is dumpy without seeing it on you first.
It's very plain & quiet, but not dumpy.

I think its retro, kinda cool, but it can't be worn everywhere, and with everything, and it depends alot on your own style

You actually pull it off ok and the black is less dumpy than brown, but you'd be better off with either a leather bomber jacket or a long wool overcoat--not some odd hybrid of the two.
