I know English Navy is English Navy, but how blue is too blue. How does the answer differ relative to the suiting needs

-> Everyday/Starter suit?

-> 2nd navy suit

-> etc.

What about 47358ish?? I hear you on 341. I guess I don't understand the "English Navy" requirement completely. I saw an Armani Black label English Navy suit, and it was nice hue as an alternative to black, but I guess I'm trying to figure out how "navy" stands as a wardrobe staple against other color palettes.

Subsequently I guess I'd ask who makes the "best" navy suit??

So for like a first suit, or at the very least your primary navy....should you go darker or can you go with the lighter side of navy

A lot depends on your complexion. If you have dark hair and light skin, you can go pretty dark navy (almost black). If you have a muted complexion (hair and skin in the same palatte and on the light side), then softer, brighter blues tend to work better (medium to slate blue). I think there isn't an intrinsic right/wrong about the blueness of the suit (though I doubt anyone would wear a turquoise suit to work); it's more about the person wearing it.

I think I look fine in navy blue, but I just don't like it for some reason. Blue-grays (and actual grays) are more to my taste (cue the Smiths).

47341 is too light:

I actually have a nailshead tropical wool/cashmere 95/5 blend in that color that I love for a spring/summer suit. Now I am in Az so 6 months of the year we wear summer suitings.

It might not be as versatile in a cooler climate but it is a great change of pace from the normal solid, pin or chalk stripe navys.
