I hope they get a reward!

Teens hand in $100,000 catch

Police say two boys have found nearly $100,000 in cash while fishing on the New South Wales north coast.

The teenagers have told officers they found the money on the banks of Tuntable Creek, north of Lismore, earlier this month.

Police say the boys handed the cash over yesterday after getting legal advice on whether they could keep it.

Officers have searched the area near Tuntable Creek but have failed to find any clues about where the money came from.

Anyone who thinks the cash is theirs or who has information on the find is urged to come forward.

but there is good chance the government will just keep the money. yes is the money went back to it´s proper place the karma may be good, but they literally handed the money to a group slightly better than organized crime.

The money was most probably the proceeds of crime. I'm inclined to think that a "rightful" owner doesn't exist in cases like these.

My paranoia about it tracing back to a crime (and then to me) would be horrible.

I'd probably keep it in a safe, dole it out bit by bit for small purchases at different places. A lifetime petty cash drawer.

Anyone who thinks this is a smart move in either a moral or a logical sense has been brainwashed to worship authority. Like someone said above, this is not going to be going to a rightful owner, if there even is one.

Possibly, Lismore was known as the ope-growing capitol of NSW.

Now, if we assume it is drug money - handing it in to the police is unlikely to result in a reward.

On the other hand, what do you think of the ethics of keeping it? Leaving aside the danger of some crimelord discovering you have his money!

Exactly.

They'd just buy 100,000 worth of candy and comic books.
