I'm here temporarily. My family lives here.

That you have a reason for your choice? That's fine, but the statement is rhetorically void -- even flat-earthers at least had arguments, "hey it looks flat to me!" There can be discussion there. But there's no discussion to be found when if the basis is kept hidden or meted out by drops. No discussion and no truth.
I used the word 'costume' and you went on an exploratory redefinition of my diction. I used the word for a reason: it illustrated my point. You understood the word as well, or else you wouldn't have tried to broaden the term to include the wardrobe of the average Velvet Tango Room patrons. I think three-piece suits and top-hats for people who don't normally wear them are affectations. They're more sophisticated club wear, Ed Hardy with a stick up its ass, and often look downright silly because the wearer doesn't even wear them well. I had a lawyer who wore one. He was a cool guy. I couldn't see him at the Velvet Tango Room, though.

I still hope you go back for a cocktail. I'd buy you one myself but I am too many hundreds of miles away.
Maybe I will. I didn't know they actually had decent bartenders, because my prejudice against anything being decent in this city are the product of living here for the first twenty years of my life.

I moved away a long time ago. The winters made me too depressed, the family drove me crazy, the jobs were limited. I do miss my friends, but not a lot else. Oh, and the aaaaaaaaccent. "That sad sack of a black cat from Kansas had a snack" "Dat belt cost six bucks" "Dey put french fries inside the sandwiches!" "If yer happy and you know it clap yer hands"

When I say Tango is contrived, I don't mean it's a horrible place. Like you mention, the drinks and service are the best any where. I go there with people from out of town, or people that have never been there before.

If I just want to relax, my preference is for Night Town, granted they don't have great cocktails, but the atmosphere and music make up for it IMO.

I've already got a few places I plan to hit in April. VTR, without a question. Light Bistro, one or both of Symon's places, a gallery or two...should be a nice time.

If there's a good show at Night Town (often world class jazz and blues musicians), I would check it out too. Otherwise I wouldn't bother with it on vacation. If you're staying with someone (kitchen access) check out West Side market. Cuff's in Chagrin Falls is one of the best clothes stores I've seen in the Midwest (Chicago included).

Thanks for the tip. We'll be credit card camping (a.k.a., Ritz Carleton)

The best places are in the remnants of the old ethnic neighborhoods. A lot are on the east side. There's a few on the west side, but most there have been consumed by ghettoes. Slyman's Deli is awesome. The West Side market has some nice vendors, but some are crap and just resell stuff from wholesalers. It's still a much better market than most American cities offer.
