Zegna Suits - More Affordable Than You Think - Page 5

If he were advertising fully canvased Coppley suits, using Zegna fabrics, I think he would not have started a firestorm. An example of a more honest way of advertising this product can be seen on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/Zegna-fabric-Cop...QQcmdZViewItem

Well, for one thing, they aren't all Coppley. I just clicked on one "Zegna" and it says it was tailored by "Cambridge" (then talks for three paragraphs about Ermenegildo Zegna). The Cambridge ad makes no mention of canvasing.

Also made by Coppley (just another of Coppley's brand)

Coppley suits are largely canvassed, with a floating chest piece, and are constructed comparibly to the finest european suits. The manufacturing process involves meticulous hand finishing and several inspection stages to assure the quality of the stiching and shaping.

This is for the most part accurate. The "constructed comparibly to the finest european suits" we can write off as puffery, but the rest is correct. Once again, no one was suggesting that the Coppley suits are crap, rather that they were not of the same level as, for example, Oxxford or Samuelsohn. But, then, they can still be perfectly respectable suits.

I don't know fellas. Why does everything try to be the finest or among the finest when in fact most of this stuff is somewhere in the middle? Zegna is in the middle of the finest scale. Oxxford is on the high end of the middle of the finest scale. So why not just be honest and call it a value suit?

Zegna fabric
low price
good value

but not among the finest.

You go put on Kiton or Brioni and come back and tell me something about how finest feels.

Bingo.

I am with you on this, chorse123. Hyperbole is often used in advertising but if you will be doing such things here in such a specialised forum, you need to be more realistic and direct. Zegna material =/= Zegna suit. Coppley quality =/= Oxxford quality. As for the whole european styling thing, well, the silhouettes I see say otherwise. Anyway, Execstyle, you do see that there are people here interested in Coppley suits but you did IMHO miss a chance to possibly make new customers by being evasive over the labelling. Don't know why I am still harping over this, seems that there has been no change.
And I quote
Quote:
"Zegna is renowned both for the quality of their fabrics and their manufacturing. Many people search out suits tailored in Zegna cloth, because of its incredible quality and tactile appeal. I stated explicitly in my post that the suits were "exclusive cloth by Ermenegildo Zegna". This name is a mark of quality fabric, and one of the defining products that Zegna offers. It would be one thing if it was a poorly tailored suit, but because Coppley is such an outstanding producer, I will not accept claims that I was dishonest."

I'm convinced. I'll take 20 to start.

Who makes a higher quality suit than Oxxford?

The thing is, I look at pricing (and thus value) basically on two spectra: brick-and-mortar, and online/discount. Now, since Exec Style offers no real advantages over Ebay, VCH, or STP, to name a few, I think it's prices have to be compared to them, rather than to a department stores ore somesuch.

I think we can agree that relative to VCH and even STP, not to mention Ebay, the value of these suits is not so great.

Heck I have a BB GF suit made with cloth from Ermenigildo Zegna.

I would say that this is better than Coppley.

I will say that I don't think BB GF does suits with Zegna cloth any longer.

Also, I have worn Coppley before and they are fine suits, just not to the level of Greenfield's work or certainly not even close to the work done by Oxxford.

Within a price range, you have to look at styling. So, take your pick at $3500, if Oxxford suits you best then great.

Tom, I've been wearing Oxxford MTM for over 20 years, as my father and grandfather before me.

When I asked "Who makes a higher quality suit than Oxxford"? It was in response to this statement:

Right. No question their sewing is unbeatable, but I prefer a more Italian style. So, for me, Oxxford falls below Borrelli, Partenopea, et al. I think that's what JA was referring to.
