Ebay Seller Question

Alright, so I put up a five-day auction with BIN, and someone bid it up to the BIN, instead of using BIN. Now BIN is gone and I don't want to use "End Auction" as the highest bidder has zero feedback. I don't think any of the watchers will bid though. What to do?

Where's the problem? The item is going to sell for more than BIN, which is a good thing for you. If you're worried about the zero feedback to be honest I say "too bad" unless there's some other proof the bidder is going to scam you. People have to start with zero feedback, and you can't just assume people with no feedback are out to do something dishonest. I would certainly suggest you do all you can to protect yourself, but I think it's unfair to penalize the bidder for being new.

Not having used ebay in a while, assuming you have the technical capability of cancelling bids, I feel you have every right to cancel a bid from someone with zero feedback. Obviously, you cite the issue that if you cancel it, you may not have any purchaser. Best move is to e-mail this person directly, have a few e-mail exchanges to get comfortable and with where you stand. I hate e-bay and the potential for scammers is rampant. Watch your own ass first before worrying about whether you're breaching any sort of etiquette.

Whats the big deal? You don't ship until you get paid, and if he doesnt pay, file a complaint and ebay refunds your listing fees and you re-list. You lose some time, but whatever.

MrG, my issue is that I had assumed that if you submit a bid of up to the BIN and someone else already submit a bid that high, that the first bidder would win automatically. I hadn't realized that there were two bidders at first, and it had seemed odd for one person to bid the BIN. I don't sell on ebay so I slightly misunderstood the way bidding and BIN work together.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Either way, I wouldn't sweat the lack of feedback. Just make sure you're careful, and it should be OK. I know eBay is filled with scam artists, but I still think it sucks that it's assumed that all new members are scammers.

Update: I waited three days before contacting the winner (I did send an invoice right after the close). I waited eight or so hours before offering it on Second Chance to the other high bidder. They took it, and less than a half hour ago I got a (poorly written) email from the original winner saying that they were waiting on a credit card payment, their car broke down, blah blah blah. I contacted them telling the situation. I know I did nothing wrong in reality, but ebay probably has a different view in these sort of situations. Oh well, hope I don't get negative feedback for this.
