long sleeve shirts and suit jackets for broad shoulders and short arms

i have broad shoulders and am not very tall (5'7") and find that long sleeve shirts that are comfortable around my neck/shoulders are too long on the arms, but when i get a smaller size for shorter sleeves it then feels tight all-around.

i have the same problem with suit jackets. any suggestions? hoping to avoid getting tailored stuff here.

Getting jacket sleeves tailored is very normal. I'm lucky my jackets only need about 1 cm shortened but I still need that 1 cm. Short of getting your jackets MTM it's basically impossible to avoid this.

I have a similar problem. I'm 5'8", with broad shoulders, a big neck, and slightly short arms. I have to size up to get everything fitting properly, but then most of the shirts are like a balloon around the waist, and usually an inch too long. I haven't found many shirts that fit me right in all areas without tailoring. For OTR shirts I've had the best luck with H&M, BB, and Express. As for suits, good luck. Probably will have to have the sleeves shortened.

I was recently shopping with a good friend who has nearly this same build. 5'8", broad shoulders, and the rest thickly athletic. In my opinion, there is no way around tailoring the jacket based on shoulder fit.

My best advice is to find the best tailor in your area and court him like you want to marry him.

Though I am taller than your example, when I'm not fat (as I am right now), I have very broad shoulders compared to my waist and absolutely MUST have a jacket and trousers tailored 'in' at various places to compensate for buying to fit the shoulders. Thankfully, I have God's own tailor. Though I believe he may have purchased a new boat based solely on my custom. Oh well, at least I look good. lol

Barba and Finamore work pretty well for this build but still require some adjustment. Someday everything will be MTM for me...

Clothing is made to be tailored. Consider yourself lucky--in the real olden days, dress shirts came in three neck sizes. Armbands were used. Fit was nonexistent.
