NYC Hostel recommendations?

Hi All,

I'll be in New York in mid October to check out a couple of graduate schools, and was hoping someone might be able to recommend a decent hostel for a three night stay.

I'll be heading up to the Bronx one day to check out Fordham, and checking out The New School the other day, and while I don't need to stay right next door to either, I don't want to be over in Brooklyn either.

No recommendations from me but I know there's one in Chelsea (20th St?) that's close to the New School and plenty of good restaurants/bars

What about the Gershwin hotel? They have hostel-like accommodations.....have never been but heard good things. ~ H

I have no idea if it is still there, but in 99 I stayed at the Banana Bungalow hostel there and had a blast. Boned some Argentinian chick in a room that had four bunk beds (ie 8) all being fucked on at once. My life has taken me to some dark dark places.

The Banana Bungalow sounds like a third world brothel. Dark, dark place? I've been to Argentina, 95% are at least a 6/10 (Metrostyles' lucky number). Empirical data shows, if shes Argentine it can't be that bad.

There's a semi-secret place on 7th street in the east village. Not sure if it's listed in the hostel listings or not. It's between 4th avenue and 3rd avenue somewhere (north side of street). Close to McSorley's pub. that's gotta be the best place. Prime location (walk 10 minutes to new school, 4 train to the bronx is accessible)

Btwn 3rd & 2nd?

7th Street does not run btwn 4th & 3rd....
