That is what I have been thinking.

High heat wash and dry must put the steel into the ones I have worn for about 5 years without a problem. However, I'm using about 30 pair in the rotation.

The 712H is the "Whisper Wool" over the calf, which is a fine merino. Not to be confused with the Windsor wool, which is thicker and courser (though also a good sock for matching with heavier winter fabrics).

I stocked up a couple years ago when they became hard to find, but I've burned my way through the stockpile now, especially in charcoal and navy. I am tough on the heels of my socks, and these Gold Toes held up much better than anything else I've tried.

Oh well.

Hrm, I find myself looking for wool blend fall/winter weight dress socks ahead of time. Do you guys think Gold Toe's offerings would be a good choice overall? I'm kind of on a budget (minumum wage, grrrr) and just want something that'll look good enough.

If you're on a budget, you can't go wrong with Gold Toe. Mine have lasted for years and served well through this latest New Haven winter. TJ Maxx and Marshalls always have several pairs.

I also have to recommend BB for more formal dress hose. I bought a pair for my junior prom (6 years ago) for $20, and they still look like the day I bought them.
