What do you wear when going out?

Hey guys!

For most of my life, I had been a guy who liked to just hang around with friends and chat around a beer or two at a pub or something. I hated clubbing and all that stuff. Now, I am starting to get fond of that, but I don't always know what to wear exactly. There's of course the classic Am-Jack look, but there has to be another way around it. What do you guys wear when you're going out clubbing? Maybe that'll help me.

depends... but usually i wear a slim fitting shirt like a vintage lacoste or grand slam polo, maybe a tee w/o any logos, if its cold throw a vintage milatary jacket over top (have a air force dress tunic from the early 70s that is perfect for it), either my levis city straights or my selvage levis that i tapered to dior homme proportions, and some chucks. im not trying to get pussy tho, usually just hang out and listen to music or make music. i also dont "dress up", ill wear the same thing out as i would to the grocery store. i also find that i dont pay to get in most places, so maybe that affects how i dress. if i was trying to impress the doorman or people in the club it may be different.

I would like to get some input on this as well. It is so depressing that everyone wears the same thing when they go to clubs, but really, what else can you wear other than an untucked button up shirt and some sort of boots/dress shoes and jeans?

Of course I wear nicer boots and jeans than everyone else, but in reality I pretty much look just like the rest of the masses.

If you tuck in your shirt, won't that make you look different enough from everyone else, in a better way? And if it is tucked in, better to have something that fits close so the body so you don't have the mushroom effect

As cliche as it sounds, I try to wear my "clubbing attire" in the way couture houses do at fashion weeks.

Like add a cricket sweater, skinny tie, or funky necklace to the asemble. And nice shoes are a must too.

What kind of 'nice shoes'? Most of the shoes you see there are either sneakers or some square-toed Kenneth Cole. I personally don't have nice dress/boots or something like that so I go with my sneakers. I can't bring myself to wear square-toed Kenneth Cole or something like that, even though I know that girls absolutly loves these ugly shoes.

Dude you mentionned you were in Montreal, there are absolutely no decent going out spots that require you to dress up, just wear what you like. That being said I often wear : a blazer (slim, usually black), dress shirt (slim, usually black or white) or tee depending how dressed up I want to appear, jeans and sneakers. If you want to be less casual just get some average to good quality chelsea boots in black or brown depending on what floats your boat. Oh and striped shirts are for the office and always tucked in.

This is surely one of life's great mysteries.

On another note, I personally do the tucked shirt thing. That is pretty differentiating in and of itself.

Chelsea, chukkas and jodphur boots are all staples in a man's casual wardrobe. I strongly suggest getting a pair.

As for sneakers, stick with streamlined, low profile ones. Absolutedly no Puma speedcats or any other psuedo euro-girly-racing shoe. Try clean classics like low-top chucks, adidas sambas, nike blazers, vans slip-ons.

I think square toes convey masculinity, to the uneducated majority.

I wear gold Chucks, pointy silver shoes, or black and white winklepickers, dark skinny jeans, and shirts. My hair looks like Steve Marriott's. I try to avoid wearing blazers with this ensemble but sometimes you can't.

I like to overdress slightly, when I go to better bars and clubs. A nice shirt and tie, perhaps a jacket. I have received LOTS of compliments from girls on my shirts and ties, and definately makes you look more sophisticated than all the other guys in t-shirts.
Tonight, however, I'm going to a punk show, so I think I'll lose the shirt and just wear a pair of skinny jeans and a black t-shirt.

Real simple. I don't like to ruin my good shoes (regular brown cap toe oxfords, nothing special but I just hate getting rid of all that dirt and crap that comes on them, nevermind all the polishing) so it's just sneakers (Asics Tigers, brown, sportive but kind off nice). Jeans, mostly dark blue RR Nudies (they're in their "just washed for the first time phase, which is really nice :P). A nice dress shirt tucked in (no button down, 'cause that's just ugly. Whenever you were buttondowns... don't, they're ugly) and a simple broad belt. The dressshirt, ofcourse, as much cut to the bone as you can get with confection and a budget No jackets or ties, too much hassle, and I lose 'm anyway :P So basicly... sneakers, jeans and a dress shirt tucked in

Jeans, sneakers, 2 t-shirts or a t-shirt and a button up shirt (only partly done). Probably plain.

Depends where I am going, and the weather, but always jeans, usually boots or slipons. If I'm going somewhere nice, then I wear a buttondown, sometimes tucked, sometimes not, and if weather/atmosphere call for it, blazer. Not amjack, cause the clothes fit, the shoes aren't cement blocks and I don't go with a grubby white undershirt as the first layer (oh, I also don't use gel in my hair and am not hugely jacked or really fat).
