TV mounted above bed

I like to watch movies, but find sitting to be a bit uncomfortable for such a leisurely activity. Laying down would be the most ideal and better for posture, allowing me to concentrate on the film. I don't eat popcorn, so that's not a problem. I've thought about mounting a flat screen monitor above my bed that would flip down or getting a projector that would project onto the ceiling. Has anyone had experience with this?

4 words: Craftsmatic adjustable bed.

I wouldn't want to have to move the mirror.

I think it's one of those things they don't recommend.

Yes, the glass isn't designed to withstand the pressure it'd be exposed to in the horizontal position.

Regardless, I'd always be worried the thing was going to fall on me, no matter how well it was secured. Those things are heavy.

Heavy? A 24" monitor only weighs like 20 lbs or so and there is no glass involved. I don't think it would be much of a problem at all. If you started with a smallish screen and used an overbuilt wall mount bracket I don't see what the problem would be. If you wanted to way overdo it, you could build a box to put the whole thing in and mount it with heavy screws to the ceiling joists.

Oh...I was thinking more along the lines of a 42 or 50" plasma. I somehow missed the words "monitor" and "flip down" in the OP. Yeah, a little LCD would be fine.

This reminds me of a childhood fantasy ... if you're going this route opt for an inexpensive projector, which won't fall on you and could be used otherwise without the need to un-install anything.

You would have to mount the projector on your headboard to avoid distorting the image, wouldn't you?

I would think that the flatscreen mount is pretty do-able. I had a mount similar to this and I could see it being tweaked to work for this purpose.
