I get the same amount every night...sleep 11pm, wake up 5am, 1 hour commute.

It's all about nutrition! Then again, I am lucky and don't gain a pound from drinking/sleep deprivation/over-eating.

There is MUCH more to it than that.

Boo hoo. Go to bed at 10. Welcome to adulthood.

Seems like my experience is different from almost everyone in that when I was younger (teens and early-mid twenties) I did horribly on less than 7 hours a night. I tried my hardest to get 8-10 hours. If I got 6 or under I was not fun at all to be around. I also had bouts with insomnia, so I never had classes or jobs where I had to be up before noon.

For my first semester in college I was getting 4-5 hours a night and was getting serious sleep deprivation (constantly falling asleep in classes, HAD to have an hour or two nap in the afternoons, etc).

Now it's totally different. 7 hours of sleep in a night is A LOT. Every once in a while (once a month or so) I'll get in a night of 12-14 hours, but 4.5-6 is much more common.

I'm also finding the quality of the sleep to be a much more important factor in terms of how I feel during the day. If I have a really bad night of sleep, a 15 minute nap mid-day can turn the whole day around for me.

Another major factor was getting my overall health under control. I've lost a ton of weight the past couple years and am eating about 1,000 times cleaner than I used to. I haven't really thought about it before but I suppose that could be impacting my sleep and almost complete lack of insomnia/asthma symptoms now as well.

you'll get used to it. i work those same hours and during the market from 9-3 i can't even leave my desk, rarely go to the bathroom and sit in front of numerous moniters which simply radiate heat and noise.

initially it will be hard but as time goes by, your body starts to adjust. not to mention that i work out about 5 times a week and somehow throw jiu jitsu is just plain nuts but you can do it.

i managed only 4 hours of sleep after drinking until 2 in the morning last night and still feel fine. granted my commute time is only about 20-30mins tops.

trust me your body will adjust. the fucked up thing is that once your body starts to adjust to these schedules, you'll end up waking up early on the weekends as well. i can come home at like 4 in the morning only to find myself wide wake up at 10 am. it sucks.

For 12 weeks I had the following schedule:

wake up at 4.30 am, be at work by 6.40 am, work till 7.30 am with only 10 mins max for lunch, gym and dinner or socialising, and sleep by midnight max.

I was fine with the schedule, but I'm 19 years old. I don't think I could do the same if I were 40.

wow. nice to know you only had 1 hour to work and the crucial socializing for the rest of the day you only had 4 hours to sleep!
