In a new house without any wireless sucks. Need a cheap ISP to connect to. Did some searching and found kind of sketchy ones I.E. 550 and then Netzero....

What I dont understand is how do I connect to Netzero if my computer has no access to the internet at all. It says there are no setup costs....

How cheap are you looking for? ATT basic is only $20/month. Try looking around on dslreports.com

In my country, it is not easy to get a good cheap ISP. If it is cheap it sucks. If it is expensive, it still sucks but not as bad as the cheap one.

Eh my dsl bill is 25ish, and the modem was free. I'm with ATT.

Entry-level DSL is the cheapest broadband option at around $15-$19 + fees/tax.

On top of that you will need to buy a modem - most modems these days include a wireless/wired router built into the device. Some ISP's offer "renting" the modem for $5 a month but these things cost $50 at the store so renting is not worth it.

If you have a smartphone (iPhone or Windows-Mobile based phone) you can tether it to your computer and connect your computer via the phone's internet connection. YMMV - some phones don't do this.

Most mobile phones with UMTS/HSPA support this. But you might want to make sure that your provider offers a flatrate or at least an option for high transfer volumes and if he bans some protocols or services (for example most mobile phone providers in Germany don't allow peer-to-peer networking, VoIP or messaging).

Good points, you definitely want an "unlimited data" plan or else you will be slammed with insane data changes. I have Sprint with an unlimited data plan and an HTC Touch Pro and it works beautifully for me.

Regarding restricted protocols.... you have a point but the game is changing and the line is becoming blurred. With Netbooks and laptops coming with Mobile provider modem-cards built in, the USB/PCMCIA modems and "pocket wireless hubs", not to mention the advancement of smartphones (my Touch Pro has an IRC client, Gmail/AIM/Yahoo messaging client, a bittorrent client and more) its getting near impossible to restrict access by protocol or service.
