Damn. Saw him perform live about 20 years ago and I can't even remember where.

Talented guy and oddly fitting song...

Damn that's horrible.

As a kid, I remember Basketball Diaries and Forced Entries were two of the first books that I really got into. When I read them, I got such vivid views of Carroll's life that I had never really gotten from other books at the time. It was interesting to read things he was doing as a kid in NYC, not from the vantage point of looking back on it 20 years later like a lot of writers do, but instead from his immediately thoughts after it happened, in the form of his journals. His writing was definitely something special.

For what it's worth, Basketball Diaries is still hands down one of my favorite books.

Forced Entries is one of my favorite books. The world is a little more drab for his passing.
