Critique my new website

I've been working over the last couple of months on setting up the foundations of a digital agency, with a friend.

What's a digital agency you ask? Well we aren't quire sure ourselves yet, but at the moment it will centre around website creation (Joomla CMS), strategy, marketing and SEO. Nothing unique there on the surface, but we hope to put our own spin on things and do some great work.

The company will be called LightBulb Digital and will operate predominantly from an office in Adelaide, Australia, but possibly some work in the UK/Europe. We are still in the early stages of operation, so this is a bit of a sneak peek. It would be fantastic if you could take a look at the website and let me know your thoughts, suggestions (professional, technical or otherwise) and if I've made any blatantly terrible spelling mistakes!

Just quickly, after a cursory inspection, I would suggest slowing down the animation on the Home Page and only having 1 element animated. On the secondary pages I would suggest moving the "Design & Build", "Choose Add-On Features" and "Services and Consultation" to the bottom of the page, or eliminate them altogether (as they seem redundant). Just my .02

first of all, congrats! the website looks great, and love some of the work you guys have done. in terms of the layout of the site, i agree with faded. the "Home" page seems busy. the "Design & Build", "Choose Add-On Features" and "Services and Consultation" would be sufficient on the "services" tab. the bottom section (in black) with the latest news, and contact is a great touch, however, might be worth trying to compress that area. it seems a bit tall for a supplemental section. my 2 cents!

looks good, classic joomla looking site but lose that cheesy ass stock photo of the people with the headsets. upper portion is also too large IMO/takes up too much of the page, you should move the twitter feed further up on the page.

be mindful, if you will be selling clients on bulding upon joomla, druple and wordpress, the most saavy will be quick to realize you yourself have built upon a joomla template.

have a look at my company site, www.magnetik.com. you would never know it was built on wordpress.

^^^ exactly... looks pretty good, front page is a little too messy, I'm not quite sure where to look. Everything looked reasonably professional until I saw that stock picture of the girl on the phone... Read Kunk's post a few times... let it sink in.

First of all - looks great. Professional enough to consider purchasing from. Not that I need to.

Second, I think it is too wide. Consider tightening up the width a bit. The animated section up top is too big, as someone else said, but some of what it says is useful. Does it make sense to make this animated "intro to what we do" a sidebar instead of a giant section at the top?

It is definitely too wide, now that I look at it again. How crucial are the Portfolio and Add-Ons boxes? Will anyone need these functions before they actually make a more basic purchase from you? I would consider removing that entire block column on the right and somehow repositioning the twitter feed elsewhere onto the page.

I would introduce the company with a blurb or a banner up top (much less tall than the current intro animation). Then I would go into everything else. Overall the presentation is very good though.

all thanks for your feedback, very constructive. I've taken general steps to simplify the interface a little bit on your suggestions. Also moved twitter up as per Kunk's suggestions.

looking better. lose that pic and the we love web design (can;t tell if it's earnest or ironic) and you'll be golden.

you admit that you don't even know what a "digital agency" is, and you're using a template for your design-services site.

Now, in this day and age there's really nothing wrong with that; there are many, many others that are doing the same thing, BUT that's sort of the point. I don't really think you're going to have much success with your "agency" since you're really not offering anything that someone couldn't get at one of the THOUSANDS of other "agencies" out there. To really stand-out you need to have a sick portfolio and have a lot of really unique projects under your belt, otherwise you just fade into the mass of other also-ran "companies" that make web 2.0 looking sites for the mom & pop stores around the corner from their house. So, thats really the bottom-line. If you guys made any kind of decent profit from this I would be SHOCKED.
