Not especially a drinking game, or rather, not a drinking game, but acquire is quite possibly my favorite board game thus far.

I've always liked Monopoly and Battleship, both of which have been translated to the iPhone/iPod Touch extremely well.

Like Clue, too.

I've done so-called "adventure gaming" since 1960 and have a few published. Can you scope the problem a little? What do you seek in terms of complexity of play, time for a game, who to play it with, multiplayer vs. one-on-one, subjects of interest, etc.?

Besides some of the ones mentioned, I like Stratego.

You are suddenly one of my favorite regulars. Go/Baduk/Wei qi is the ultimate board game. Everything else is child's play with arbitrary rules. Do you play on KGS by chance? What's your rank?

Bump. This summer I vocalized what I have felt for a while: I really, really like board games of most sorts and love learning and playing new ones. I'm pretty hooked on Acquire and while the new sets are so-so with their cardboard tiles, I just scored a vintage set from 1968 (with sturdy plastic tiles) for $20. Besides that, I've played a few risk variants and I might get myself a Puerto Rico set because one of my friends tells me it's quite good. Anyone have any other favorites?

If you have an iPhone/iPad/xbox pick up those versions first to try out. Much cheaper than buying the game to find out you don't like it.

I like Catan a lot, although the xbox and iphone versions have been pretty disappointing in interface but they work (although some of the Catan add-ons would be nice). Ticket to Ride has a decent xbox implementation. Carcassone has excellent iPad/iPhone and xbox implementations. Samurai looks good so far, but I haven't played i that much.

i like playing othello/revesi (the checkers version of GO... LOL)... still its distilled to the point where there are all sorts of strategies that work (the best being passive aggressive most of the time). i think reversi online is the only game that is 100x better when played on a computer (even head to head) compared to on a board with pieces - which make for human error affecting the game so easy. the version i play a ton is the ireversi app on the iphone... its really good. timed and everything...

I own Last Night on Earth and all of the expansions. Hilarious fun. The photo art is so damn cool: My mates and I have been playing a ton of Reiner Knizia games.... Amun-Re, Tigris & Euphrates, Ra, and more recently Dream Factory. The games are very difficult to master, but really great thematically. I really want to get Samurai. Pandemic, RoboRally, Warhammer: Chaos in the Old World, Dominion, Small World and Rune Wars are other big favorites of ours. One of us recently got Neuroshima Hex! which I haven't played, but people really dig it. We burnt ourselves out on the excellent, but time consuming Battlestar Galactica game, mostly because the expansion is terrible. I'm a big Race For The Galaxy fan. Even better is Race For The Galaxy AI/Online which has all the expansions, online play, really REALLY good AI and it's legal (Rio Grande Games approved and gave the creator raw scans of the cards).
