Did they ever fix that weird calculation error in the Platinum edition? I forgot what exactly it was, but I went with the prole 12c instead of the platinum when I went to b-school. This after the school furnished us all with TI calculators - I gave my TI to Mrs T. I used an 11-c exclusively for high school and undergrad.

My first physics prof had a scientific HP calculator that all of us nerds envied. He taught with a document projector, a sheet of paper, a marker and the calculator. He projected what he was writing and the calculator as he did the calculations. He was faster with that HP than any of us students were with our TIs. That was when I learned RPN.

I use excel as a calculator now for the most part. I keep wondering if I should pick up a 12c for street cred.

i use my brain to do simple arithmetic. anything more complex involves me using 2-3 sheet of scratch paper.

most of the math involved in my job is insanely simple like making change or simple fractions [an apple is approximately .5 lbs, i have 47 apples... how many pounds of apples do i have... or' how many sandwiches can a person make out of a pound of turkey if its sliced this thick].

a calculator makes math harder for me actually... i tried to learn how to use a ti-83 for algebra and never could remember all the processes so i'd have the right things to put into the calculator but never know how to turn that data in to the solution to the problem... and it all involved stuff you can't factor on paper

so i was screwed.

i hate using a calculator if i don't have to.

Engineer. Unlike the small-timers. My calculator. Excel does my finance junk.

I am going to have to steal that idea...

1. I will use it in my next round of staff reviews!
2. Taking it to my next sales/client visit when I know price is coming up.

I want to buy and learn to use a slide rule just for the hardcore nerd cred it would lend me.

I own two. They're pretty simple. I think that there are a number of websites that will teach you, bu mine came with instructions.

Former boss had one from like 1986. Used every day, changed battery maybe twice since purchase.

i heart RPN. Can't use normal calculators for shit.

That's on my desk too. Use it everyday, had it since the early 90's. I think I've changed the batteries once.
