Diagnose My Hand Pain

I was at the gym early last week when I started experiencing some pain in my left hand near the end of my work out. I didn't continue, to ensure I didn't accelerate the pain and making matters worse. It's over a week later and it still hurts.

To clarify, the pain is along most of the area between the base of the thumb and start of my wrist. I can push off with the left hand and only feel a dull pain. But when I press the back of my hand forward, it's a sharp pain along the aforementioned area. There is no swelling and I'm still able to make a fist without any pain.

What am I dealing with here? I want a trip to any medical facility to be a last resort, since I'm one of the walking uninsured.

Damn.. go see a doctor. There are some free / low cost clinics around? Try icing it for 5-15 minutes 3x with 15 minute rest periods in between.

I wondered how long it'd take before that was brought up. I'm a righty. Try again, sir.

Probably the AIDS. But I'm also not a doctor.

Hurts when you make a fist? Then don't make a fist.

Sounds like one of those small issue injuries of unknown causes. Sounds like some muscle there needs to be healed I say don't push your back of your hand forward like that. It is one of those things like 'why does it hurt when I do this' well the answer is 'don't do this'
I would say in a few weeks you won't have a problem anymore if you are in your 20s or younger.

sounds like tendonitis. alot of people get it in yoga class from putting too much pressure on their wrists form chatturangas (yoga-type push ups). i would go get it checked out. it gets alot worse if you keep putting pressure on it. otherwise its a relatively quick fix if you chill out on it.

I am.

I love these let's have strangers diagnose me on the internets.

The best anyone here can tell you is maybe take some NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.), rest it and wait. If it doesn't stop hurting within a reasonable time, then pony up and actually go see a doc.

Also, sacrificing a small animal such as a bird may help.

My only reason for posting here was to see if the symptoms sounded familiar to anyone else. I've been relatively free of such ailments my whole life, so I'm not very good as discerning one injury from another.
