I almost never choose a band's "breakthrough" song as my favorite of theirs, but in this case, I have to do it, Common People..

Man Pulp is one of my all time favorites. Common people Countdown Little Girl (With Blue Eyes) Master of the Universe. Anorexic Beauty to name a few.

Probably "Cocaine Socialism"/"Glory Days". I find latter-day Pulp a touch more interesting and enduring than the His 'n' Hers/Different Class era (that's ignoring the couple of gems pre-1994 like "Countdown", "My Legendary Girlfriend", "We Are the Boyz"...). Jarv went through the looking glass, to great effect.

I'm also partial to Jarvis Cocker's solo stuff.

Just Jarvis was magnificent, but Further Complications was quite the disappointment. He's stagnating.

I am trying to understand what he was thinking when he wrote Fat Children. Fantastic music, but those lyrics are just, not what I would think of when I am trying to understand the formula for writing a great pop song.

You see you should take me seriously. Very seriously indeed. Cause I've been sleeping with your wife for the past sixteen weeks Smoking your cigarettes, drinking your brandy, messing up the bed that you chose together. And in all that time I just wanted you to come home unexpectedly one afternoon And catch us at it in the front room. You see I spy for a living and I specialise in revenge On taking the things I know will cause you pain. I can't help it, I was dragged up. My favourite park's a car park, grass is something you smoke, birds are something you shag. Take your year in Provence and shove it right up your ass.

^^^Now that I think about it, many Pulp lyrics ring quite true. I can't decide if that is admirable or unfortunate.
