Using tragedy to get laid.......... how f***ed up is this?

So last week an old friend of mine died in a car accident, by a hit and run drunk driver. I haven't seen the guy in about a year and the news came as a shock, in fact it's still shocking to me right now as I write this. He was a good guy, smart, crazy infectious personality, great smile, yadda yadda, general upstanding person.

Anyway, my other friend who was incredibly close to the deceased also dated the guy's little sister on and off for six or seven years, starting from middle school. Naturally, they found comfort in each other and started talking again after nearly a year of not communicating in any form. Then they hooked up. This was 3 days ago. My friend has been screening her calls ever since. The candle light vigil is on Saturday, we all plan on attending.

Today, all of our friends had a lunch date of sorts- I called him out and really let him have it and made a big scene in a restaurant. Was I in the right? How fucked up is he? How badly am I overreacting?

Your post lacks some details, but finding comfort with others isn't rare. I wouldn't call someone out for it, unless it was pretty blatant and even then I'd think twice.

For historical precedents, check into Irish Wake's and the dead fiance in Animal House.

If they had already hooked up for years I don't see the problem. Not like this happened for the first time.

A big scene? Seems like shouting, "You lie!" in a room full of legislators.

You are in the wrong. There are very few situations that justify "making a scene" in public, and this is not one of them. Be a man.

You're overreacting to something that's none of your business. They're adults with a right to deal with his death in whatever way they see fit. Butt out.

Since they have been on again off again before, I'm sure he's done worse things to try and score before. But if he was close to the deceased, he is probably having more issues than he lets on. If he was using tragedy to score with chicks he didn't really know, that would be pretty douchey, but still, he would be giving them what they want, transient comfort. It would show just as much a lack of emotional strength from the women as well. [See Will Farrel in Wedding Crashers.]

No, it's the fact hes callously ignoring her.

Please add in all things now, that will make your outburst in public look justified.

I like you ConcernedParent, so don't think I'm picking on you, but are you one of those guys who gets macho and gets in the face of other dudes when you are drunk if they look at a female friend you are with the wrong way? I hate the knight-in-shining-armor affliction.

He is douchey mostly for screening the calls but she probably already knew he would do that, having known him for that long. You are douchier for making a scene in a public place about it.

Well, it was only stated in the O.P. But I suppose this is the internet and that means its a free pass to only focus in on the hot buzz words like "getting laid" or "hooked up".

No, I fit into bitch jeans too well to be picking fights.

Sex makes the pain go away. He did them both a favor, though screening calls so quickly kind of sucks.

Fuck the pain away.
