I agree those James' look great. So great in fact that I ordered a pair from active endeavors last night while the 25% off code was still active. I have been looking for a lightweight dark denim and this seems perfect and at a pricepoint that I can actually afford.

Does anyone know the difference between the James III and IV? The pair that N4UY posted are the III's but I ordered the IV's as this is the current stock.

on superfuture, the guy from blackbird in seattle said its basically the same. would get these too (love the idea of the deadstock denim) if i didnt spend so much in japan

i'm not confident, but don't james IV have an extra pocket? My III's just have five traditional pockets, I think IV's has a sixth pocket, it's a smaller pocket built in the left back pocket, and sticks out kind of like a coin pocket. Although Activeendeavors says it's a "classic 5-pocket bootcut jean" but if you look close enough in some of the pictures, you'll notice the sixth pocket. its realllllly hard to see in those pictures., but ive seen them in person...either way, I think the extra pocket is a pretty cool design, and if you aren't a fan, I don't think it would be too hard to remove.
im not sure if there are any differences in fit between III and IV.

Are these the James IV's you have on with your boots? The fit looks nothing like the picture on the Active Endeavors site...

Got my Crate James IV today from Active Endeavors. 25% discount on these is just awesome! They definitely fit true to size and I am pretty happy with the fit so far (although I am worried about stretching). As already mentioned, they have almost no hardware beyond the button fly and the way that the belt loops are sewn do not look very sturdy. The denim coloration is very nice though and I think they look very sleek and spare, just as I prefer them.

A couple of questions:

I ordered the James IV and that's what it says on the hangtag, however the interior label says "James the Third". Was this a mix-up or do other James IV say the same thing? I don't really care as whatever I have fits pretty well, but I am more curious than anything else.

While this is not my first pair of dry denim, this is my first pair that I am going to do the "not washing until completely rank and foul" experiment. I would have to hem at least 3-4 inches off the bottom for the length to be right, should this be done now, or cuff and wait til the wear is right? I don't think I would wear them as often if they were cuffed.

Also, as mentioned the fit right now is perfect if maybe slightly snug. I am worried about this as people with APC's have stretch that is 2-3" at times. Should I exchange for a smaller size or will they only stretch to how much I need them to?

Is there an initial soak I need to do in order to take out any of the existing manufacturing processes, or just wear them straight away?

not sure, but if you do an initial soak, you might as well do a hem as you'll get marks from the crease if you fold

for the dealio on sizing for crates, i think this is the most simple way to put it

if you want them to fit slim
and stay slim overtime
order true to size
and expect them to be very snug for the first few days, perhaps you'll have to wear them in the privacy of your own home for 3-5 days before they are viewable to the public eye.

if you go up a size, expect them to fit perfectly at first with just enough space around your legs to mold perfectly without being skin tight, but over time they will become, not baggy by any means, but they will start to have some extra space around the thighs and seat, providing a slight anti-fit while remaining as a "slim fit" kind of jean if thats what you want. this fit is what i have, my pictures are somewhere back on page 2. now i have to wear a belt, and can probably slip them off without unbuttoning (but i'd have to twist and turn, they arent to the point where they'd just fall off my ass if i jumped). when i bought them they sat with absolute precision on my waist, not tight so i had to squeeze in to button, but not loose enough to shift around when i move. man i really liked the fit when they were new, ive never worn anything with a more exact fit for my body.

yea, for some reason theres a big mix up everywhere about James III & IV, dont know why, my receipt says i purchased a pair of IV's from Barney's but on the interior of my pocket it states JAMES III in large lime green font, i dont know why or how it works out.

i finally got my crates from active endeavors and i tried them on once and when i was taking them off, 2 of the buttons popped out. the 2nd and 3rd one. now that's what i call QUALITY!

wow, i'd email them...they can't do that to you....sure they'd be pretty helpful seeing they are pretty new to the game
