33" or so based on a 32. They're not meant to be stacked much at all.

Sweet, my kicking mules are 28-32 and have a decent level of stacking. I think 35' would be perfect, but you can't have everything.

Should I wait to taper the legs of my Hamiltons until I wash them or do it beforehand? Will it even be worth it?

The opening on the Sally is a bit too big for stacking hence the inseam is shorter.

As long as you're just tapering them and not shortening them, you can wash them whenever you want. They're sanforized and a taper job won't affect the length.

Probably a dumb question but should I just let my normal tailor (suits, trousers, ect.) do it or find someone who works with a lot of denim?

Depends on how much you care about keeping the selvage line...

Crate Journals. Picked up in late Aug '08, worn solidly for five months, and machine-washed/line-dried once:

^ We've just witnessed history, folks. The first pair of jeans whodini wore long enough to produce recognizable fade.

More like the first pair that wasn't a stubborn bitch to wear in (RRL, 5EP, SSDS.) I had worn each of those longer and harder than I did these with much less to show for it.

I know. Was just messing around, should have said that in the denim pic thread for full effect.

Interesting to hear that the denim fades (relatively) fast. My Hammis has been pretty stubborn thus far, the only noticable fade spots were from the 2 times I fell off a motorbike. These picks definitely made me look forward to see how they turn out in a few months.

Styleforum doesn't condone drinking and driving. Or DWA (don't tell that to GetSmart or he'll kick my pasty ass.)

I'm sure the results would have been far less dramatic had I only given the Journals a simple hot wash with a little Bronner's but I was going for the color and effect that good Cone denim is known for (ala Levi's.) Still, you might want to just soak or handwash your jeans to compare notes.

I just got a pair of size 34 crate routes online but they're roomier in the waist than I had hoped -- I'm wondering if I should return them for a 33, or if I should do some sort of soak or washing machine/dryer ritual. I'm somewhat of a nooby in this realm, the only reference I have for raw jeans is my size 32 APC New Standards, which were pretty tight at first but have stretched to a comfortable (perfect) level now -- I've never washed or soaked them, I think I might have dry cleaned them once. Thanks in advance, your advice is appreciated -- I'd hate to go through the pain of exchanging online but these already feel roomy enough in the waste, i'm worried they'll strech even more if i don't do something (soak or washer/dryer or exchange for new pair).

The most important question is how they fit NOW. Are you comfortable with how they fit today or do they feel baggy? If they fit how you'd expect them to fit months down the line, that's really not too big of a problem. Jeans are only going to stretch where there's movement in a tight space, ergo, looser jeans will not stretch near as much as tight jeans. If you think they fit a bit baggy right now, more than you're comfortable with, then return them for a sized-down pair. I wouldn't recommend banking on soaking/drying to get them to shrink.

Is there any way that the mods can amalgamate the two "Crate Denim" threads. I was confused for way too long and I have a feeling I'm not alone.
