It really isn't...but more to the point, 'soft' isn't a useful adjective in this situation.
The Stark is made from virgin wool. It's not merino, it's not cashmere, it's not a blend...it doesn't feel like something you'd buy at J Crew and using mass market product as a frame of reference, it's not soft by any stretch.
That said, as I've said elsewhere in this thread, it's not as abrasive as I expected. I actually have a different virgin wool sweater, from J Crew no less, that's actually scratchy to wear. For the longest time, I wore a long sleeve T under it because the scratchiness and density was irritating otherwise.
To contrast, the Stark isn't that, despite what I expected...it's dense and heavy weight, but not particularly soft--perfect for a cardigan likely to be worn over dress shirts or other items for durability reasons, but totally wearable stand alone over a t-shirt.
